According to the Aberdeen Daily World Newspaper the Humptulips Hatchery might close do to budget cuts by Christine Gregroire.

I wonder why they would choose such a popular fishery to close the hatchery on. The Daily World says that more will be known in a couple of weeks.

I'll find out more about this and let you guys know. It doesn't make sence to shut down that hatchery. I know the guys at that hatchery really well and will call them to see what they have to say. I don't beleive crap that I read in that paper anymore...

well hog thats why they use to call it the daily liar..

the hump hatchery has been on the cutting block before and nothing has happen.. i know they want the tribe to take it over for yrs..

the numbers they have on how many fish they raise there is old and inflated big time.. maybe the coho numbers are close but the steelhead are way over inflated..

if it does get closed it will be the biggest mistake the state has done in a long time. it would sure hurt the fishing in grays harbor..

Coming from Gregoire I am not sure where this is going. Normally they pick a popular hatchery and threaten to cut it. This gives them argaining power to get what they want else where and end up not cutting it. It is still important to combat it.

Political maneuvering.

It's becoming the norm to threaten closure of popular hatcheries in a tight budget year. It seldom occurs but the threat DOES exist since it's being talked about.

I would encourage all concernd to e-mail their local representatives explaining the need for the hatchery and how many dollars you pump into the local/state economy through your sportfishing the Hump's fish.

A loud, clear, polite voice will let your rep's know this is unacceptable.
