Parker,
I should have guessed that you knew what a #4.5 spinner was. Now everybody knows!!! LOL!!! But have you seen the purple bodies blue fox has??? I just chop up a perfectly good BF and re use their bodies no sense in trying to reinvent the spinner, I'm just making them a little better!!!

Sorry Winterun. I didn't think a 4.5 was a secret. Actually, no, I don't think I've seen the purple BF. I have, however, dunked a brass BF body in the plug dip stuff and have made a purple BF body with a 4.5 blade. Never caught anything on it, though.

I can attest to the power of purple!

Years ago I found a beat up old forest green/silver #5 Vibrax in the Chehalis River. The blade was still in decent shape, but the shaft was bent and nearly all the paint had been chipped off the bell. I straightened the shaft, put on a new Gami siwash, and gave the bell a new paintjob with some street-walker glossy purple/fuschia nail polish. I christened the resurrected spinner "Barney" and for the next three seasons, my girls would fight over who was gonna get to fish "Barney"... he was a killer for silvers here in Grays Harbor as well as Alaska. Unfortunately, Barney was retired on the Kenai River last August.... too many successive fish finally sawed thru the leader.

I see a new spinner to be made and tried out in the fall. Purple Passion. I've got the perfect hootchie for it, too.

Might be hard to beat good old Candy Apple, but we'll see.

Parker-

I'll take a few of those for some Sekiu Silver action. When we hook up, we usually have a spinning rod rigged with spinners and cast at the hooked fish. There is often a fish following the hooked fish, doubles and triples are the norm.....it's fun, damn fun!

mingo- sorry to say it, but those freckles in your avatar look very familiar...hope that's not your wife/girl....when it comes to silvers and vibrax spinners in a river situation, given normal fall/winter conditions, #4 metallic blue body w/ silver blade is the killer....but for those of us who have them dialed in, you must make your own spinners in a variety of colors and weights, parker has the right idea, he'll get it right sooner or later J/K!!

I used to buy the silver size 5's, and put metallic purple fingernail polish* on the body of the spinner...now they make them that way as production models.

I'm not sure if that's good or not...since it is one of my most effective colors!

I mainly use the silver blade with purple, blue, or green body...unless the water is exceptionally low or clear, in which case I'll use the all black, black blade/green body, or the "hot pepper" #4.

Hot Pepper is the brass body, black blade with small green spots. Unfortunately it only comes in up to size 4...

Fish on...

Todd

*purple fingernail polish was purchased to paint lures, and for no other reason!

Nabbed a couple of them sky lockjawed hos on blue #5 last year.

Love the safety sign parker... especially since I used to work for UPS and see that kind of crap all over the place.
