My buddy Mitch who travels thru the Ballard Locks about 2x daily just called to say the Sockeye are flooding in right now. Actually called 2x today to say he's seen it every year but there is ALOT more than he's ever seen at this moment. I have personally seen at least 50 jumping around at any given moment but he say's theres many times that number.

What do you want to bet that "somebody" gets to harvest them!

The official counts still show only about 2,000 per day as of yesterday. Pitiful.

You know, everyone complains about the Muckleshoots, but have you ever thought about all the good they do? I seldom here people mention the positive, too bad.

Name a positive!

The following came right from the State Fish/Wildlife officers.

They have killed 60% of the Elk heard, and have left 50% of those killed to rot because they were to hard to retrieve. The state has video of the kills.

They now have one of their own running state enforcement, a woman and the one that forced the 8 point in the tribal headquarters (that was poached by a Muk) returned to them. She will not let any officer arrest a Muk.

The State pulls 3 Muk nets a week out of the lower green and/or Puyallup.

50% of all gillnetting is done by a white guy married to an Indian. What a joke. And they get 50% of all fish that come into the river.

They sell their "wild caught" salmon at Safeway, all gill net caught, how wild caught is that?

They have forced the state into not allowing any special sport fishing seasons without their approval. But they can net whenever they want.

The State had to send 4 enforcement officers up to the Skagit from the south end for the King fishing because the indians said that whitey would take to many.

Every one of them gets $2800 a month from the casino. Not one penny goes into the State coffers or fisheries. No taxes paid.

15 violations for shooting deer in private citizens yards.

They can go on you private property and take the Oysters right off your beach and you can do nothing about it

The Crab season sucked this year. State official admit the Indians clean house before the sport season started.

Not one conviction for any of the ilegal acts from the Muks. "Their" police take care of it.

The Muk tribal leaders have done nothing for this states resources. They have allowed and turned their backs on every illegal act from the tribe members. They are laughing at us every day.

Bolt needs to be dug up and beat to death again for what he and our state leaders have done to Washington resources. Your new gov. is a sellout and half of the old gov leaders are all in the pocket of both the Indians and the commercials.

Ever wonder why the biggest money makers for the state get no respect? Sportsmen. We don't pay enough of them off to get our way. We should take lessons from the Indians, They have run right over us and we have let it happen.

i couldn't agree with that more. its such bullspit. i'm friends with one of the muk's that net the green and i know what kinda of people they are and what kinda crap they pull. but like it says what can we do, nothing cause they whine and cry to get what they want.

hell i guess if its like that i might as well go back to oklahoma and get my indian rights. (i wander if i can net the hell out of catfish \:D )

Don't worry once the muks get the nets in we can all have our share. There will be a banner sale at safeway, fresh washington state sockeye complete with the little white seal of muk approval. And the general public will go bonkers buying up all they can get fueling the greed to net as much as possible. Depressing.
On the up side if it wasn't for the muks we may never have fished sockeye last year.

It's done under the guise of a test fishery or subsistance fishery. The test is to see if gillnets really do catch fish, and the subsistance part is when they cash the check from safeway. It's BS and yes I realize that they have done alot of good for that fishery, but the sporties have done alot of good for many other fisheries that they rape. I say Muck the #$ckleshoots and the Fakah

Without the Muckelshoot, that fishery would not exist..... I have a hunch they care about that fishery even more than a sportsfisherman.
The problem is that those who are not getting... are whining. And those who are getting... always want more. Tragedy of the Commons.

Yes the Mucks do run a hatchery, but they also are paid by the state to run the hatchery. It would be a different story if they paid to run there own hatcheries. I don't have a problem with them getting their share, but in a year when the run is obviously depressed, it's a shame to see nets in the river.

Why do I always hear that the Muckleshoots are responsible for this fishery? The hatchery meeting I went to was sponsered by the Seattle power utilities.

My understanding is that the tribe contributes a large portion of the money to keep this fishery alive. Without the tribes contribution, the state would not make up the difference and things would be overwith.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Niel-
Sorry to tell you, but the Muks do not put any money into any fishery. They either get it from the State which keeps them from complaining about the sport season or they get their funds from the Feds.
If they cared one bit, they would voluntarily pull all their gill nets from the mouth of the rivers and enforce their own laws to stop poaching by tribe members. (well documented poaching)
The Tribes have decided that somewhere in their past they were taken and now they are going to return the favor. The Muks are probably the most rasist group in the Northwest. The other Tribes are not much better, they all take and take and give nothing back unless it is paid for by the State.
Do a little research yourself and talk to some of the old timers in the Fisheries, it will make your heart stop.
And the worst part---All of them Indians are our age and were never disriminated against by any of us. They should be Americans just like the rest of us-no special privleges-no more rights than you or I.
I was born in Washington and have been here all my life, that makes me a native just as much as them.
