Spent 3 days scouting the lower end of the river, from just above the boat launch/pumphouse, to about 3/4 mile below Hunter Farms. Water is pretty low, and pretty clear. A few scattered cutthroat trout. No kings seen. I never quite made it to the mouth. I was chasing an outgoing tide both times I went down that far. I was in the tidal area though. I'm guessing that opening day will be slow. Probably tons of fish by the 15th.
What were those little hand sized flat fish that were all over the flats? Anybody know of an easier way to get to the mouth other then buying a key and driving halfway down?

AuntyM, I already have all of those things. Probably won't even use the eggs that much since its a one fish limit through Sept. I'll be using spinners, spoons, and flies mostly.

Can anybody give me an estimate of the average size? I moved to Washington right after last years chinook season was over.

i caught 10 last year in the 30+lb range, 3 that were 40+lb and one that was 58lb. the skok carries alot of big fish. but most are in the 20lb range.

have you tried spoons on the skok? if so how did they work. i wanted to try them last year but never got around to trying them. i have a weapon of choice that never fails to get them kings biting.

UMM THEY ARE THERE. Saw them 2 days in a row. First day there was like 20, the second there was only a few, but they are there, they are hugging the bank of the one hole in the middle. Trust me, i wasn't the only one that saw them. Anyways check out today's steel!

I used to fish spoons alot on the skok 10 to 15 years ago (maybe even longer now that I think of it). I always did very well with them. I grew tired of the crowds and snagging that is so prevelent on that river now. V-hawk your in for a treat on that river if you have not fished the king season before....
Yikes.
Good luck!

Combat fishing at its finest! That said, I'll be there anyway.

Snaggers hang at the Snagger holes. Right at the mouth of Purdy Creek and up from the bridge at the Res.
Go up from the mouth or down from the bridge and you will do ok with hardware. Gear up though, at least 20# power pro is the right ticket. You need a rod with some spine to turn a 20#+ Skok King when they feel the hook and take off for the hills.
When the real fishing slows down, go down and watch the show at the snagger hole for a little entertainment. Give the fish cops a call before you head down there though since most cells go 0-bars at that spot.

Chinooks are in the river and most of them are native fish. It's best to leave these alone anyway. Hatchery run should start soon in earnest.

Super,
The 10th huh??? Well, I'll go then instead, I had planned to fish the opener with all the other people. Maybe I should strap on my surfboard and fish the salt chuck. It only draws about 2" of water and I can paddle it upstream!!! LOL. I think we need a little before it really gets goin'. Give me shout and we'll go fish a

Your puny Washington crowds do not scare me. I've fished in crowds as thick as Blue Creek, that went on for a literal mile. Anybody fish the Little Salmon river during the springer run? It would be like putting 500 guys on the Green river (Cowlitz County).

Your humongous fall kings do however command my respect. Thanks everybody for helping answer my question.

I've caught big silvers on the Skok with spoons. I'm giving the banana jigs a try this year.

Adam, you retard, why didn't you call and tell me.

I'll be out there later today...maybe 2-3 hours.
