Any one use these ?? I am a Wiggle Wart or Hot shot guy. Someone gave me like 10 brand new Clatter tads. The colors look real good just never used one, Which type of water do they work best in, or do they work at all. I pull plugs from a drift boat. The package indicated they are a surface Bass lure.

For me tadpolly's are the "go to" plug for steelhead. They are not particularly deep diving, maybe eight feet max, but that's all you need for steelhead in western WA. I have never had to tune one and they'll work in both fast and slow water. A "doctor death" or "bloody mary" Tadpolly will always be swimming in front of my boat when plugging for steelhead.

i wanna try them off a downrigger with no flasher for coho.... they run so perfectly at any speed it just seems like it would work

Excellent plugs, especially for low water. I use them up on the Grand Ronde and sometimes on the Klick...deadly!!

Tad's have been my go to winter steelhead plug for ten years now.They have proven to be the plug of choice over and over.Good luck,

I like them alot.....I have run them out of lapush when the silvers are on top. No wieght or DR. Hooked a few silvers. After that i took it in on the rocks and pulled it fast for sea bass. It wasnt in the water 20 seconds when i hooked into a 25+ chinook. What a suprise to see that fish fly out of the water with it. Even more of a suprising was we got him in with about a 100 sea loins watching the whole thing.

Do you use the smaller ones or the larger ones ?? I have 9 smaller ones and one larger. Really like the colors on these things. If they are any good I'll get some more larger ones as well.

Tads are awesome!!! They swim true and work in pretty much any water speed. The only problem is that they only dive down 6-8 feet. Tads are always my first choice in these conditons. When I need to go deeper I go to the Hotshots or the Wiggle Warts.

Good question and idea Lupo. The go to plug for those stupid Lake Wa coho is the FireTiger Wiggle Wart (not a Brads, they suck) on a rigger (no flasher). Deadly.

Do they make a FireTiger Tad? Either that, or solid orange or solid chrome with a chartreuse lip would work.

Yep-Everybody loves their TadPolly's. They are my go too plug also. I didn't realize that they came in more than one size though.

The "red dog" is the closest Tadpolly to Wiggle Wart http://www.lurenet.com/productDetail.aspx?id=7512 but don't exptect it to catch Coho like the Wiggle Wart. For some reason Coho just can't resist the "firetiger" in both freshwater and brackish water. I would assume they work great in salt too. I don't recall ever hooking a steelhead on the Wiggle Wart though???

Every really fished warts for steelies? Given the chance, I always just go to a Tad.

I have only done it once, but those big Quinault fish love MagWarts. I know they use warts on the JohnDay, Deschutes, etc for steelies.

I used to use a ton of MagWarts up in the Hanford Reach area for those still URB's. Seemed to work OK and would get a few steelies.

But, given the chance, I'd almost always toss out a Tad over a Wart for a steelie. Probably just way more confidence in the Tad for steelies.

I agree with your statement about Warts and coho. The two do seem to go hand in hand.

I love doing the BassMasters 2006 thing with Warts on the Snoho. Pretty cool to cast in the lumber, only to see a chrome bright coho come out from under the log and hit the wart!

Can't get better than a Tadpolly for Steelhead. I love them when the water is low. The depth they dive matches good Steelhead holding water perfectly.

I fish a lot of Tadpollies for steelhead...like Beezer said, they are a "go to" in a lot of situations..

But...

My favorite is still the Golden Whore...(aka "the Leaf"). In slow, deep and crystal clear water this is a steelhead killer!

I totally agree with your last post. I guess I consider the Wart a casting plug and the Tad a backtrolling plug. I have never even thought about casting a Tad for Coho and rarely backtroll a Wiggle Wart. Last year I bought a bunch of Fat Fish and I rarely used them either.

Fact is I don't pull plugs a whole lot. I only put a plug down when either conditions dictate it (high and fast with moving fish) or when anchored eating a sandwich, cleaning a brat or pissed because the front seater just casted into the trees at the best spot on the run! Still the Tadpolly consistantly catches fish and often times provides me, the rower, with my only fish of the day!

Like a said in my first post. Everybody loves their Tadpolly's!

Of course I don't yet have one of Mike's "Magic Leaf's" though !

My go to Tadpolly is the orange herring bone with the beak dipped in black and a single siwash off the back with a Herzog/Doc twist. I rarely lose fish this way and if I do it is always the front seaters fault as he's still hung up in the damn trees.

Pulling plugs is one step above flossing. Takes no skill and is about as boring as plunking.
Got a box full of tad's from the 70's, anyone want to buy them?

I enjoy pulling plugs, to be honest, and enjoy it especially when one of the front seaters gets into their very first steelhead as a result!

But akin to flossing? No way...flossing is much more difficult than pulling plugs...
