I bought a used yamaha 9.9 4 stroke 1999. and was wandering how much water should be coming out of the motor when its running? how do I replace the water pump impeller? This kicker I have seems to only trickle it out after running a while. any help is great. hopefully some one has a kicker the same year.

I've had my outlet nozzle clog with small rocks and sand. It reduced the water stream to just a trickle...

Its an easy fix if it is the problem...

Good luck

The pee tube is the perfect size for a couple of insects that use mud to encase their eggs. Pop the cowling and take off the tube and blow air trough it or run a wire through it to clean it out. Where I live I have to do this a few times a year.

Yamaha kickers are known for clogged pee tuble outlets. I keep a paper clip in my tackle box to to clear the outlet when the water stream slows down.

I once had a dead earwig stuck in my motor pee tube.

If you're uncertain the impeller has been changed in the last couple of years, just do it. It'll give you peace of mind and and is a lot cheaper than buying a new powerhead.

Look through these yamaha topics: http://www.outboardrepairs.com/yamaha/

...might also read some of the threads in the Yamaha forum here: http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi

good luck--

my 8hp 2 stroke yami's pee hole gets plugged all the time -
try a sturdy toothpick to clean out first -then think about impeller

I have Suzuki's and clean the pee tube's out before every trip and after, when I flush, with a piece of wire. I got the wire out of a Craftsman weed eater. The coil spring. Fit's perfect. It's galvenized so the salt won't eat it much and it's enough wire to last a decade. Yeah paperclips are easier to find but if you see someone tossing those pos weedeaters grab the wire out of it.

My Johnson 15 clogs alot too. I keep a large paper-clip nearby to unclog it. I recommend that you replace your water-pump unless you know it has been done within the last couple years. Then, you'll know it's good. Also, over time the bolts corrode in place and tend to break when you try to remove them.
