I received a TH Rainshadow XST1025F in the mail today. Nice grey slate looking blank wrapped in a dark purple wrap with gold inlay (Husky Rod!!!). TH put on an exposed reel seat and put on the gold SciTic guides.
Sweet rod.
More to the point, I'm pretty good at comparing rods side by side. Side by side comparison between the Rainshadow and the Loomis were strikingly similar.
At least by initial feel, wobble, wiggle, weight, etc, the XST1025 is DAMN NEAR IDENTICAL to the Loomis IMX 1025. The IMX might have a bit more wobble to it, but if it does, it's so minute that I could just be imaging it.
Hopefully, I'll get to put the two to the real "on the river" test by mid Feb. I'm almost positive I'll like the XST just as much as the IMX.
If that's the case, I'll give the XST a BIG THUMBS UP on the Parker Scale.
PS. There is no comparison of the craftsmanship between the two rods. On a scale of 1-10. The IMX is a good solid 6.4. The TH rod is at a 9.9, if not a 10. (Can't really be perfect).
I'd love to see how the XST 1141s, 1084, and a 1082s compare to the equivalent IMX's. I'm guessing they results will be the same.
If you call can't buy Loomis rods at cost, I'd SERIOUSLY and HIGHLY recommend a TH rod. You'll pay less and get WAY MORE in a rod.
JMO, as it really means nothing.

XST's rock.. Rainshadow all the way.. that's all I have to say And if any of you know Parker, you will take what he has to say, straight to heart.. Parker is one of the biggest rod critics I know.. I'm just preparing to build myself a few new XST's here in the very near future.. amazing blanks...

unfortunately they don't have a 9'0, 6-10(1082) in the XST series, at least yet. i'd like to see one though...i know lamiglas offers a G1000 series that weighs only 1 3/4oz...don't know how the new ones without the gloss finish hold up...
somebody was telling me that the rainshadows were no longer made in the states? anybody know the truth?

I believe I know the truth..
A majority of the rainshadow blanks are made offshore.. On the same note, they have a lot more consistency on the quality end of things.. They are of the highest quality and almost no factory seconds are even to be found..
I think there might be a 1082 XST coming in the future.. I'll try to find out..

I have built 1141, 1084, 1143, 1263 and just got the 1025 and 1264's ready to go. There a awesome blank and I would put them up to just about anything on the market. Not only are they light and fast, there stong as hell.
Chum Man,
I talked with Batson the other day and they are working on some other models, Sounds like they may be adding a 1082 and a 1142. The RX7 1082 is a sweet little rod. It my go to rod for summer. run.

Hey Parker and all of you who have your rods custom wrapped - something I have been wondering for awhile that maybe you can answer for me...what happens when you slam your custom rod in the car...er..I mean bust your custom rod fighting a toad Steelhead and it needs to be repaired. With Loomis I pay $20 for shipping and I am back in the game in no time. With a custom rod, I assume only the blank has a warranty, which means you pay for it to be re-wrapped and wait for the work to be done? Looking for info, as this is a big reason I have never gone the custom wrap route to date.
Thanks. NCD.

Parker, you'll have to bring it down sometime this month. We can float one of the local rivers or take both out in a sled, I'm curious to see how it plays out. Keith

Thanks. NCD. I'd say your less apt to slam it in your car door.. lol.. You'll get a far superior rod by having it custom wrapped.. GENERALLY SPEAKING of course.. But yes, your warranty would only cover the blank.. On a good note, usually when a rod is broken, it's just the top half, which is a fairly quick and easy re-wrap for most rod-builders...

Hey Parker ...what happens when you slam your custom rod in the car. Good darn question NCD. I've yet to bust a custom rod, so I haven't had to deal with that yet. Here's what I suspect would happen: Scenario A: Parker hooks his 43 pound steelhead on the 1025 and it explodes on the hookset. Probably a defective blank. I send it back to TH, tell him I lost the World Record Steelhead on a bad rod. He promptly makes me up a new one. Probably will need to charge me a small wrapping fee, as he has to make a new rod from a new blank. We're all cool. Scenario B: Parker sees one of Nofish's squirrels up in a tree and decides to "go Ninja" on it with his 1025. The rod breaks in half as I try to hit the squirrel upside the head, but miss, and bust it over a branch. Obviously my fault. I send it back to TH with a note telling him "I'm about as retarded as once can get. It's all my fault." TH makes me up a new rod, but charges me whatever it is he charges me. Either a new rod cost (since it was my fault), or some "fee". Either way, there's gonna be a cost involved. How much, I don't really know. But, I'm willing to take that chance on a rod that is a 1000X better in quality, components, etc. Yeah, it's a risk. (short answer). Parker, you'll have to bring it down sometime this month. We can float one of the local rivers or take both out in a sled, I'm curious to see how it plays out. What we need Keith is a XST 1141s. I pretty much HATE my TH GL3 1141 and will only use it as a backup rod to the IMX. There is such a noticeable difference between the IMX graphite and the GL3 graphite that it's silly. Can't stand how the 1141s GL3 feels. Mushy, crappy, not cool in my hand. I'd love to feel how the XST compares to the IMX 1141. The 1141s are so unique that you'd tell really quick what the XST was all about (good or bad).

I'm still very happy with my 1141's in IMX, to me they are top notch. Having trained myslef to stay in my shoes on a hookset has saved me many broken rods over the last 3 years. I used to break them all the time! Keith

I haven't fished the IMX1141 in a long time, but seems to me that the IMX was a little faster and a little more power. I do think the XST is a little stronger.

Hope I am not too late to get in on this discussion. I have never used a rainshadow rod but several years ago several of my friends that are guides refered to them as Rainshatters because they had seen so many explode under pressure, it seems that this is not so anymore judging by all of your reports. I was wondering how thier 1141 compares to the GLX 1141s? I have 3 of those and I absolutly LOOOVE them. I ask because I am always interested in quality local tackle. Thanks-T
