OutdoorLife did a nice Article on how to pre-strech mono and spool it with the requisite tension.

I decerned a lot,from that piece.

So were they using tension at between 15-25% of stated breaking strength? What do you remember from the article?
If you can find the article online, or give us a summary, I'd be very interested. I'm curious as to the amount of tension they recommend. In my tests, once lines were pulled to failure, and stretched out, the longest left over segment was retested. Similiar to the stress some people put their own mainlines under, while trying to pull loose snagged gear. Within each brand the fatigued break points were consistent. Some tested at near 100% (!), most tested at between 50% and 70% after they were fatigued, and stretched out.

VHawk, thanks for the painstaking assembly of this emperical data. I'll readily change lines if Maxima UG is not the best according to your fairly rigorous testing. Already sounds like it probably isn't for the type of fishing I do (downrigging and flat line trolling mostly.)

This is a great thread, and I've already learned something from it. Sorry for the previous off-topic post, The wolf thing was just too interesting.

I'm a Maxima Slut, but hate UG with a passion, because it has zero abrasion resistance.

I like to keep Gammie's stoked with them in my Pip's,for friends to use.(grin)

Thank you Big Daddy, and Parker for trying to keep this thread on topic. I'm almost done with the actual testing, just taking a break. --<RIMSHOT IN THE BACKGROUND>

Vince,
I was wondering about stretch, too.
I had once used Stren Blue (I know, I was naive, young, I needed the money) and there was no such thing as a break-off.
If you hung up your line, you could hold the spool and walk back to the parking lot and the stuff wouldn't break.
No kidding, 20-30% stretch.
Just the thing for sensitive drift rod.
Anyhoo, keep the good stuff coming.
Thanks,
