I have had mixed luck with hitchhiking. I spent more than 30 minutes at Sultan waiting for a ride. I thought a guy standing there in waders with a fishing rod would get a ride right away. Not necessarily so. Same story on the Gold, but there I could see it as there was only a car every 15 minutes.

Coldest I have ever been was in the back of a pickup truck that picked me up. Doing 50 mph in 34 degree weather is no fun!

I think the scooter and chain is a great plan, as long as some damn tweaker doesn’t have chain cutters.

lmao, i got mild hypothermia in a sleet storm one day on the sauk trying to hitchhike, took over an hour before a logger picked me up...probably the worse option but the cost is right. i thought the same dave, a guy in waders and a few rods in tow would get picked up fast...I have also paid a few bankies gas money to run me back up river and a guy doing some illegal logging took me back to darrington for a 6 pack one time...

We hitch hike all the time on The Salmon and Clearwater. Thing is, my main buddy can stand there for hours and I get picked up by the first car... Hurts his feelings pretty bad

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

A guy would have been picked up, but we're talking about you , Dave.

Akboy,

I float solo a lot, and I use my mountain bike for my shuttle. That has two downsides. First, I try to take out somewhere that I can stash all my stuff out of site. Otherwise, the most valuable and compact goes in my backpack and I ride it back to my car. Second, some floats I don't do because the road route for a 6 or 7 mile float might be 12 or more miles, and that's farther than I want to ride after a long day's fishing or after dark. And this is coming from a guy who thinks nothing of doing 30-35 miles on my road bike after work. But the mountain bike is a clunker by comparison.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.
