I hate mooching.... The price of herring these days is rediculous and too much to waste em on dogfish.. I jig my own herring, but can't always catch enough to stay in business....

Neal, I do 90 percent of my mooching out of La push in the summer and havent caught a dogfish there in 4 years. When mooching for blackmouth in the sound the dogfish numbers are way way down in the winter. Trolling is boring and requires little skill from all anglers on board except the guy running the downriggers. I dont have any thing against someone who trolls though, as a matter of fact I love the take downs of shallow water summer kings when early morning motor mooching in the straits and the sound. As far as the price of herring goes I know guys who go through 25 dozen herrings worth of pot and beer in a day. I dont do either anymore but can easily justify spending the money though. I guess mooching is just a labor of love. Any way enough rantin', no matter how you like to do it salmon fishing is fun and it's something we all have in common.-Tom

Thats what I'm talkin about! Motor mooching, trolling, same difference in my mind...
I was speaking mainly from a summer king perspective. The Dogfish drive me insane in the sound.
