I have used them and am in the market to purchase one this winter after fall fish and hunt. Were is the best place to get one in the Northwest? Any help would be great. I think I will be installing it myself. Looked it over on friends boat and it looks easy. Any insight on that would be great.----Thankx Joe

I am not to worried about install. I have really looked over a friends boat. The price scares me. Maybe for Chrismas. HE HE Thank you for the posts. I live in a small town so buying here is slim. Internet is ok. I would like to deal with a dealer that is in the NW.

Installation can be a 1-man job, with moderate skills.
Total install time for me was less than three hours. It can be a little messy, but not terribly difficult.
I bought mine through the Sports and Marine shop in Auburn, on Auburn Way.

I am hoping to get one by spring but if I'm lucky I'll have it by the end of the year. I'm going to get teh TR-1 gold. with cordless remote and any other extra stuff. It will plug in and run with my gps. I have about 1/2 the money saved up right now.
what kind of prices are you guys seeing on them with install? at the Sportsman show a few years back they wanted $2,500. and I think it was with the install.
these things are just awsome. imagine backtrolling plugs down river in the rain while sitting under the Boat canopy with the heater going!!! I can't wait!!!

They are all within a few bucks everywhere. If you want the best price find TR-1 at a sportsmans or boat show. The last couple of years they were selling at those shows at or below dealer cost. I should know I am one of there dealers and we get very little discount. Install depending on how good the mechanic should be 4-6 hours for the common person that doesn't install them everyday like the TR1 guys

I have had mine on 2 boats. Very pleased except for the wireless remote. I was able to buy factory direct (guide discount), but since Garmin purchased Nautamatic, you must now go through a dealer. The purchase price is pretty much the same, it's the install time/hourly rate is where the major price difference is. Be sure and get someone who will tune it to your boat (on the water) when picking an installer.

Install took me about 4 hours by myself, spread over a couple of days with a few beers. I sure liked it last year, can't wait for fall chinook season.

Snit,
What problems did you have with the cordless remote? Should I forget it and get the remote with the cord?
Has anybody had serious problems with these?

I just received mine back from Tr-1 and paid almost 500 to have a new motor seal and a new oil resevoir put on. But to be honest , I have put many hours on this unit and have had it in two different boats. I have had my problems with it, but with saying that, I could not even think of being without it. It makes life so much easier when fishing alone or with rookies, keeps the boat straight, etc. Now the cordless remote could be improved by making it larger and waterproof, but I think there is some kind of proprietary stuff to do with that. I have the cordless and have it around my neck, but often have the corded remote in hand. It is handy to have when I walk to the front of my walkaround and can steer from there, or if I have to take a potty break!'

As a new member of the family of TR-1 owners, I can only say one thing....
How in the hay did I EVER get along without this gizmo?
Life on the water aboard the F/V eyeFISH will NEVER be the same!

The wireless remote is a non starter due to it not being water proof. No mater how careful you are around the salt it will be toast in one season. Before Garmin stepped in I ask to get mine fixed and the answer was -"That's why you got two!" One was the replacement. I still have all the rigging and one remote in a bag!!
I have one on each of by boats and would not be without it no matter what!! They absolutely are that good!! Three Rivers is the place to go locally I feel.
I also have one of the originals they don't even service anymore - new in the box! Parts are like antiques!

OMG!
The master of marine salmon fishing makes a cameo appearance on the board!
Been over 3 months since your last post. What gives?
Welcome back, big guy!
BTW, R W B was one of the big influences in convincing me to get my TR-1.... along with that other undisputed master of marine salmon fishing, FishNg1. Now we just gotta work on Katosan. He still insists on trolling with his BIG motor out there! Apart from when his big Merc broke down, the only hours his Yami T-8 racks up are when he flushes his motors at the end of the season.
