well the picture might not be the best, but the fish was gorgeous. Maybe one of these days I'll figure out how to get good photos of fish.

a fine line between wanting a great photo and wanting to get the fish back 100% healthy, usually the photos lose out to a quality release...very nice fish and they will be back again so all is good...cheers.

Nice work D3, beautiful cutt.

What is up with the cutt's BTW? Insane amount of cutts on the beaches. They showed up in force about 2 weeks ago and I've landed some huge ones on poppers. I release them in the water and I'd love to have pics, but I fish solo most of the time now so I can't juggle the camera, fish, and the flyrod.

Keep up the good work, D3, and thank you for your reports and pics. Always cool to see and you make me want to get a boat \:\)

well kid maybe we can get out and fish the beaches by boat sometime if you are up to it... \:\)

i always make sure a fish is going to be released quickly and will sacrifice the pic to make sure they stay healthy, but it sure is nice to have a pic of some of these big guys. They are just so pretty. The CnR net does help a lot.

Sweet, thanks D3, that would be great and I'm game anytime. I will pay ALL expenses for the day and I also release cutts without harm because I also have great respect for them. I know where they hide over here on my side of the pond, be happy to show you if interested.

Thanks,
Justin

Agreed those rubber nets are great. Much easier when a fish spits a hook in them too. Not a pain in the butt to get it out plus its better for the fish to be in a knotless rubber net....

i swear the rubber nets shake the hooks out half the time i use them. Rarely since i have gone to using my boat net have i actually had to grab a hook and remove it from a fish. Those barbless stingers seem to fall out quickly.

Yo!
I have been fishing south Hood Canal (near Hoodsport) and it's really been (suprisingly) slow for SRCs for about a month. And I consider myself a SRC specialist! It always picks up in fall. Just wondering where the SRCs have been at as Kid Sauk said there were a lot near him. Or maybe I'm losing my SRC touch...

havent fished down that way in a long time. we have had a stellar year for cutts but i didnt fish them most of july or august because of salmon. I am finding fish in spots that have traditionally been good, although maybe deeper than i usually think of fishing. some really nice fish have come from 20+ feet of water.

Caught a nice one yesterday in hood canal while at my parents for Christmas Eve. One of the bigger fish I've caught out there (21"). My dad and brother both took pics, if I get them I'll try to post. Don't normally fish out there in the winter so it was a nice suprise. The water was still pretty dirty from the flooding in their end of the canal.

Yes, it was probably the heaviest one I've caught out there in twenty some years of fishing for them. It had some definite heft to it. We usually get the big ones in the spring when the chum fry start to head out of the local streams.
