I drove by the Skok today and it was circus-city.

Superfly keeps inviting me to come fish the Skok, but one 8 pound coho for a 30 minute drive just doesn't get me excited. I won't be down there for at least another week, preferably two. The smallish hatchery coho are as exciting as 60 year old porn, with subtitles.
Try the Quil, Toutle, Cowlitz for silvers. Snohomish for pinkies. Try fishing pockets and small holes of any depth in the Toutle for biters. I hooked and lost 4 chrome rockets today fishing green chartruese yarn on a 2 foot leader. Just flipping it wherever rapids dropped into a small pool. Reminded me of small stream, bait fishing for trout. The cloudy, turbid waters, allow an angler to walk right up to the holes even though the water is really low. Small jigs would have been perfect, but I wasn't prepared. Blahhh.
I cannot complain about losing those fish, they did incredible acrobatics to earn their freedom. No mistakes on my part. I chased the salmon, he threw my hook. Godspeed to you my little friend, you kicked my ass. A lot of the Toutle has changed in the area below the sediment retention dam. Don't expect it to look like it did last year.
The Cowlitz at the confluence of the Toutle is holding fish. Don't ask me what it takes to make them bite. I saw nobody hook one from a boat all morning. Reports of bankies succesfully flossing them downstream.
Not sure what the Skookumchuck is doing, but this time of year it should be full of coho. I think that retention on kings is closed at this time. Check your regs, and reg updates.
Goodluck

skook's closed until the 16th of october -- don't think i've ever seen a nice coho up there myself, unfortunately(don't tell that to the locals fishing for them in the ditch below the fish ladder in february).

...for the record: I hardly think the Skok (or Qiul,Toutle, Cowlitz, Snoho, Skook) qualify as "west end" rivers.
West end of what? Hate to split hairs dudes, but ya need to look further west before you reach the "end"...
Good luck though putting your grandfather on fish!!

The Hump is closed. Nooch has fish but is extremely low and clear. Chehalis has fish but is open for steelhead only. Give Clay Butler a call, I'm sure there are silvers in the Queets.

I OBVIOUSLY missed out on somethin here... But it sounds almost as entertaining as getting attacked by an eagle in one's own front yard
