I often hear guys disdain pinks. But as my good friend John Koenig says, "Pinks are made for kids." John helped my grandson have a great day.

Yes there are coho in the river, but rain and a short attention span kept us from getting any. Even so my grandson had a hoot. Now he wants a coho. I don;t get out with him too often, but pan to hit the Skagit later when we have a shot at chums and coho.

Were you up there yesterday, Dave? We floated by that spot around 4pm, I'd guess...humpy city...we caught a few coho, but not much to write home about...

Fish on...

Very nice all the time you seem to spend with your young ones
Dave. Makes me recall the best of times growing up fishing at my grandfather's side, he was also a traveling angler. (Thanks for reminding me to remember him.)

Saw J.K.'s rig there yesterday, must have missed you all in our hurried sprint upstream to beat the rain !

There also great when you take someone out who knows nothing about Salmon and after catching a bunch of Pinks they think you must be the greatest fishing person in the world.

Give Pinks their due, they seem to do better than any other species in just about any river in any kind of conditions they are in. That makes them pretty special. Pinks are Salmon to and deserve respect.

agreed. i work with a guy who swears the best way to cook salmon is to scale it, cut off the head and the tail and dump a bottle of french dressing on it.

guess who will be getting my hen chums in a few weeks from now?

pinks are great for a river system. Carcasses adding nutrients for smolts and Sturgy fat bastards. John Koenig is great to fish with and great with kids.

I agree.

Nice pics Dave. Looks like fun for the kids. Pinks keep the neighbors from the "good" fish.
