I had some of their powerbelt bullets in .54, and all they had was a plastic cap at the powder end, but were lead from the belt to the HP. Do your bullets have a copper jacket, or are they just lead and plastic. If it's lead and plastic, you are good to go.
I use the Hornady Great Plains bullets ahead of 110g of 777 in both of my .54's, and they work every time. The groups I get at 75 yards off the bench are usually in the 1.5" range, which is all you need.

Sorry its the Copper jacketed power belts. The thing will shoot tacks. I am concerned this close to the season switching bullets however. I don't want a ticket.

Well, I know from reading my origional post that I didn't state the facts.
I have been using the wrong bullets.
This year I read the regs again, realized that the copper jacket on the bullets that I had been praticing with were illegal.
I didn't know that Pawer belt made a non jacketed model.
Just assumed that when someone said 348 powerbelt that the ones on the shelf at Sportsmans were legal.
They apparently sell, lead ones there but are out of stock.
So I am headed to the range tomorrow with Percision Rifles Dead Center Lead Bullet with polimer tip. 340 gr hopefully it shoot as well as the powerbelt.

I have 16 295 grain power belts that are yours if you want, .54 caliber. I don't use them.

My brother and I were just in Sportsman's Warehouse the other day and noticed how they were sold out of all the legal bullets, but still had lots of illegal bullets in stock, and we were wondering why the heck they stock so many bullets that are illegal for hunting in this state? Sure they can probably be used in firearm restriction areas during modern firearm seasons but it just amazes me that they have so many and have none of the all lead bullets.

Thats what I wonder, whats the point of stocking so many different bulllets that are illegal? The percentage Washington of hunters that hunt muzzleloader out State must be very low. I will report back with my grouping of the PR, bullets. JY

Nah power belts are legal. They are not jacketed. Jacketed means in my interpretation a SABOT. Power Belts are not SABOTS. Power Belts have not treated me well. Go get some Thompson/Center Maxi-Hunter lead projectiles and watch your accuracy improve.

Jacketed does not mean sabots.Jacketed is as in copper jacked bullet.Instead of a solid lead bullet.Sabots are legal.
I agree.Power belts are not the best bullet out there. If your using them go to at least the 348 grain bullet.

That's right...some powerbelts are jacketed and some aren't. The only ones that Sportsman's Warehouse (in Lacey) have in stock right now are the illegal copper jacketed type. And I agree, the only good thing about Powerbelts is they load easy.

Ok, why all the slams on PB's ??
Is it field related, or not getting them to group at the range?
I have never shot a animal with my muzzleloader, so all the experience I have with them is at the range. And I am no Daniel Boone, but at 50 yrds I can group them at 2 inches. I tend to group them a little bigger at 100. However my eyes arn't that good. In the field I won't be taking any pot shots. JY
