A bit early still probably, but is anyone squidding? Anyone getting squid?

It is not early, large squid are in at waterman dock, bremerton. Limited parking so be early, one or two hours, youi will not be first there, I think some of those people live there. Good luck

My buddy went out just over a week ago in Seattle and only got two.

I've always wanted to give squidding a shot.

I some kind soul wants to PM me a good place to start I'd appreciate it.

I've heard theres a good place somewhere by Brownsville or Port Gamble or something....

Go to the dock at Steilacoom, Irie. Close to Oly and always a productive spot for sqiddlies. Bring a handful of squid jigs and a lantern on a rope if you want to be one of the 10%'ers.

Lantern on a rope eh? Sounds a lot better than the generators and halogen lights!

They actually have squid guides at the Edmonds public fishing pier.

Panhandler I've seen some people netting west of Port Orchard on that little point of beach that has access & pottie. Any idea what their catching? Look like smelt net's ???

Sure, but then you would need both a smelt guide AND a squid guide.

Fish Whisperer, the people you see with nets at Ross point are smelting. Salt water smelt are much better than river smelt. And it is usually best at high tides and the limit is I think 10 lbs. Its a lot of fun when you get into them.....

What Meatline said, also add that its best to go before the high tide, as many smelt are caught before high, and also asx the tide goes out. Each day is different. Commercial only fishing on wed and thurs, and this early in the season it does not pay to go out until a couple of days after the commercials wipe it all out. All that said, i have found out that i am not as smart as a smelt, because every time i think i have them figured out, they do something else.

You should try Brownsville marina to squid. There seems to be less people there. They also have power hookups on the dock of your lights. I have not went this year but have done good this time last year. Just stay to the left and walk out to the public dock. Mostly the same people out there and not to many of them. Bring a coat and some beer. The wind will keep it cold so no need for a cooler. Good luck.

I normally hit downtown Seattle or Edmonds pier because it's closer.
Sometimes it's good and other times it's dead.

When I was a kid my Grandfather used to take me to a short pier on Bainbridge Island he used to fish from. He said it was an old ferry dock. It wasn't in Winslow, It was a few minutes drive out of town I recall. I think it was near a rock painted like a strawberry or a frog. Anyway that was 25 years ago and a fuzzy memory.

Anyone know if it's still there?

I imagine squiding would be pretty good there.

Squid are here all year. I usually start around the first week of August. Now is prime time. It will only get better through March. Any rod and reel will work. They are a tasty meal and make for great bait. Everyone should give squid fishing a try. Any dock wikll work. A light source helps greatly. You can also drift or anchor a boat and use a light.
