I won't be going there, have fun. Why shop there and pay full retail, when you can support a local store that probably has a better selection of salmon and steelhead gear at a better price?
Do a little research on a few of the things you want to buy in the near future. Use Google Products to search for item, sort by lowest price, and see what you could buy the item for online, .....then go look at what Cabela's charges. or for that matter, do a Google products search on items you know cabelas carries, and sort from highest price to lowest. I can garantee Cabelas will be in the top 5 of the highest pricing. For really expensive stuff, Buy online elsewhere and save upwards of 30% over what Cabelas charges...no brainer.
I will concede that thier customer service is great. I've returned a few gifts to Cabela's and had no problems at all.
I'll always support local stores for terminal tackle, rods, & specialty stuff.... and buy my big-ticket items online.
You Three River's guys should get some sort of e-commerce on your website going. Once it's up and running they are relatively easy to maintain.

I agree with Cabelas having a great return policy, especially on the "Cabelas" branded products.
I wish the local stores around here had better prices and better knowledge. I will say that LFS in Bellingham has very knowledgeable and nice staff and I spend a fair amount there. There prices seem very high to me though, along with every other place around here. Maybe I'm just cheap? Nope, you're not cheap. I agree with you 100% on that, being In Bham as well. I used to try and hit H&H to support the local guy but he made it nearly impossible to want to. The prices in there were not even close to realistic and the service was lacking severely. Yeagers well, they are Yeagers and unless I need a nice batch of "run around" or a huge box of "ignorance", I steer completely clear of that store. Lately, I will only hit LFS dealing with Zach or I hit Dave's in Lynden, but for the best service there, you must talk to Dave, not the robots.

Actually, business reports confirm that the "big box store" mentality has run its course just like the mega-malls.
Walmart sales at the megastores are down and they are looking at downsizing their stores. It turns out that once a store gets to a certain size, it loses its appeal and a good chunk of business.
There are obviously a lot of people just like me. I don't want to park a mile from the store, hike in, walk another mile through a hundred aisles just to find the one little item I want. I'd much rather go to a tiny store and pay a bit more.
These huge box stores have created opportunity for the little guy again. The big stores can't afford to stock the high quality, low volume items that a little specialty store can.
As for Cabelas... sure I'll go. Some day when the crowds don't look to bad and I have some time to kill.....
One example from me is a bird supply store that I frequent. The bird feeders, houses, food etc.. that are available at the big box stores are crap. If I want quality stuff, I have to go to the specialty store.
If you have the knowledge and the guts.... there is room for a high quality specialty fishing store. I'd go there....provided it was in a good location.

the thing i like bout the stores is you can actually see the clothing that you want to buy. when lookin in there catalogue's you can't really tell what the clothes are like, but when you go to the store you can see what the material is like and what size will fit you best, my .02.
when i went to the cabelas in boise though them corkies was .24 cents a piece, lets hope there not that bad here

The "local guys" ain't perfect either, I won't waste my time or $$$ in a place north of Seattle or on a SW Wa. river, I'll just leave it at, very poor service.

When I went to the one in Hamburg, PA it was chock full of throngs of smelly Mennonites and Real Tree-clad Appalachian Hillbillies doing thier Xmas rush. Weird thing about Mennonites: Mirrors (and evidently bathing) are forbidden because of the sin of Vanity, so they rattle-can the chrome bumpers of thier black cars, yet they are required by law to have side and rear-veiw mirrors. Another thing, they all stay in tight malodorous bunches of 15-20 like they're afraid if someone might get cut from the herd they might sin somewhere. When I was jostling through the throngs of Hoi Polloi this chubby Mennonite chick with a lip brow and a big hairy red wart on her cheek gave me the "lets roll in the hay" smile. I wasn't turned on.
...Oh and they devour Scrapple by the wagonload. hey, whats wrong with scrapple? but then again whats right with scrapple! now that is one food you will only try once!

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Geez. That is a big-ass store.
I went tonight to the new Cabela's. The crowd was big, the store has great eye-appeal, and they have an assload of stuff.
But, and of course there's a but........they need to get their heads on straight about just where this store is located. Stink bait and barracuda rigs just aren't going to sell in these parts......neither are 20 cent apiece corkies. IMO they need to shrink the warmwater selection and increase the salmon/trout/steelhead inventory. More floats, more spoons, more plugs, more corkies/cheaters/spin-n-glos, more jigs........just more locally demanded stuff.
That said, the deals they had on some items were awesome. Clothing, boots, hats, gloves.....any apparel was deeply discounted. I found a few things I couldn't live without, checked out the store and scooted out of there because the crowd was making me want to climb the walls. There was a boatload of money spent there tonight.........they'll need to keep that kind of thing going to pay for that store, even though it's not on par with the larger Cabela's stores around the country.
The staff was everywhere and quite helpful. What they know about fishing and hunting stuff I can't tell you, but they were polite and attentive even with a gazillion people in the store.
Be advised......you have a minimum of three.........go ahead and count 'em...... THREE traffic circles to negotiate to get to the store from the Marvin Road exit from I-5, and judging by the number of numbskulls that ccouldn't negotiate a traffic circle on my way there tonight, Friday will be an absolute clusterf*ck. So, if you go Friday, good luck with that.

Exactly my point earlier. Most of the best gear I've found is made locally and isn't carried by Cabela's. If they do come around, good for them, but I'd think they would lose alot of potential customers who didnt see what they wanted/needed when they ventured there the first time. I'm not a Cabela's hater. I'm not a believer either...

I've always felt Cabelas to be more of a clothing outlet in my eyes. Why drive all the way up there to buy fishing crap when I can shop at Bob's or Fisherman's. Did they have a bunch of food there and a Big Game display?
