Tough crowd. Starting to sound a bit like the guys over on a FF site I check out.

One guy posts a pic of a 15# carp caught out on the flats around Kennewick (sounds like fun to me) and gets bashed because it's a carp. The guy who bashes him says the best fish are the brown trout he just caught up at Pass Lk (bs) and posts some pics. Everybody bashes him because brown are an introduced species that will push everything else to extinction. Then another guy outdoes him with a 10# wild hen he swung up on the xyz river. Now that dude is definitely the hero until some guy named Leland posts a pic of a 120# Tarpon he just caught in Belize.

At that point it sounds like GMFSHN where the next 30 posts are "wow" because it's pretty hard to beat a tarpon off Savannah Flats.

I wouldn't be bragging about using a thin wire hook because their skin is so tough though.

Badfish,

There are big differences amongst the boards. Just accept it. Gamefishin' is what it is. Guys on this board are a different breed of fisherman with more challenging expectations.

Chums fill a niche for alot of fisherman. I am ok with that as it keeps guys away from the places and species I like to chase. I think we should be encouraging your average fisherman to chase the hatchery dogs.

Write all you want. Keep your hands up to protect your face. Stay on your toes, don't rock on your heels. And work the jab to keep the trolls back.

As long as your not trying to get a flame war going someone will step up and provide cover fire for you. You seem like an honest girl having fun, probably why Vedder stepped up to tell the crowd to simmer down.

Minter creek is cool, not cool for guys with $800 rod and reel outfits, but more like cool for new guys to learn how to play fish, or guys who really like to play chum on snoopy rods. If I wasn't already busy the rest of this week, I'd be down there with an extra spool of 10 pound test, and my barbie rods.

Careful while your down there fishing. It's not hard to adopt the local ethics, i.e. intentionally snagging fish, 10 foot leaders, black yarn, etc etc. Fish do get snagged by accident, but if your fishing in between 10 guys all yanking hard on every cast, your going to do the same, as well as lose all your teeth and wake up in a double wide trailer.

If you live in PA, there are many opportunities for you to catch chromies. If you invest even a fraction of the passion that you have poured into that car of yours into catching chrome steel, silver, and king you will put many of us to shame and have, as they say "Great Success!".

The Great PP Chum Wars continue to wage (surely you've noticed if you are a "regular" here). You have (perhaps) unknowingly alligned yourself on one side of the "playing field" by posting pictures of Chums at all, much less ones that are close to spawning. You have just discovered WHY many of us do not target the Chum: they are dark/ turn dark quickly, and they do not have quality meat (ok Dave V, they SOMETIMES do, but not very often). Even if you don't eat them, why not target a better fight like a big king or steelhead?

Thank you for sharing the pics and story about your adventure. You live in prime country to drive fast on curvy roads... and to catch big shiny fish whos pictures will impress friends and strangers,

Good Luck

When I was 17 we were endlessly smoking, and one of our friends "smoked" a match head, part of a grasshopper, and chocolate cake, I swear we were like the original original jackass movie.

They are such crazy biters that you need to use small hooks to penetrate their thick skin....just slightly contradictory there bud. Chum are probably the best biting salmon of them all, anyone who needs to snag them is a pathetic excuse for a fisherman.

But of course just about every fish you hooked was in the mouth...right! Why does the state allow people to fish for salmon at night? To give people who work during the day a chance at them? I thought night closures for salmon was the norm. What a joke.

I caught a Chum in the salt last winter, we could slighty see the bars when we put in the boat, by the time we got home they were really apparent...I think they do that, kind of like Durado...Nice and bright green before they die, then they turn pail, must be blood circulation?

You don't make sense!!!!...Later

wow, you have a lot of time on your hands to analyze and scrutinize everything I say. Here's the breakdown, if you need a more detailed explanation I can PM you...:

I was always taught from my grandparents, who are of Polynesian origin, that you should only keep what you need. It would be cool to catch a big fish, but even more satisfying to me is seeing the happy faces of people who get a free meal, especially one that I caught and worked for.

I went to Minter Creek on Nov 19th, 21st, 23rd and 26th. The first pics are of the fish we caught on the 21st. Of those 4 fish, the very first in the pic had red meat, two had pink meat, and the one with loose eggs was nasty so I threw it in the trash. I smoked the red meat and gave the pink ones to my grandparents. My grandfather loves it and will bake or fry it.

I work graveyards, so my schedule is kind backwards. I don't have time to cook and would prefer not to. I will occasionally eat fish, but only if it is served to me. Steak, potatoes or rice and I am happy.

I am a beginner with my Lil Chief smoker and did smoke one of the chum I caught last week. (Refer to above paragraph) Of course, I sampled a piece...or two and it tasted very good, so I made a dip out of it for Thanksgiving and will use the rest for a dish at my work's Christmas party. My fiance hates fish and would throw up if he ate any, but will occasionally eat fried shrimp.

You too, have lots of time.... You do not know me, nor have you seen me fish, so do not accuse me of snagging. Make up your mind about snaggers, Do they care what size hook? Do they want to go smaller or bigger hook?

Question: What do hooks penetrate?

Answer: Maybe a hook is meant to penetrate something soft, like skin? Ah yes, that's why it's sharp and has a barb. I thought they were sharp to penetrate bones ha-ha-ha, just kidding couldn't resist.

Question: Does the mouth of a chum have an outer layer of skin?

Answer: Hmmmm....I'm stumped...I dunno why my bigger, thicker hooks kept popping out of their mouths. So I looked in my little Plano box and saw thinner hooks that looked like they were made out of aluminum or some dull metal. BINGO! I no longer had the problem of my hooks popping out, but now had a problem with foul hooking fish as the tide was lower and more fish were spreading out. Sooooooo, lol, I decided to go to smaller hooks made out of the same metal and YAY! No more fouls!

Part two of your post: the fish I was referring to were the 2 darker fish. Those were the two caught at night, maybe you can tell by the flash and darkness in the pic? * And no, not every fish I hooked or landed was in the mouth because there were hundreds, if not thousands of fish in that creek, making it easy to foul hook fish ( I sincerely apologize, LOL). Which I even did without trying like just reeling in my line or taking my line out of the water to practice flipping it out there, sorry AGAIN LOL. Hence the reason for me changing the size of hook.

I drove out to Minter Creek from Port Angeles which is about a 2-2.5 hour drive depending on traffic and speed. It's kind of a long drive and I must not do it too much, as XMas is coming and I should buy some presents, LOL.

I arrived at Minter approximately 1230PM and it took me many, many casts and many, many dark bellied fish to find my 2nd chromer (page 1, post 1, pic 3) . So I would say it was around 2 or 3pm when I had my 2nd fish on the stringer. At that time, it was high tide and getting to be sundown and I did not want to leave, lolololol. When it is high tide at Minter, the fishing sucks because the water is black and I can no longer see the bright fish. Is that bad to see the bright ones and target them? If it is, I apologize . Anyways, I continued to fish...Well, it was getting dark and I like fishing *, so I decided to stay and continue trying to find bright, possibly some nice chrome Chums...Now at around 6 the tide went down and lots of fish started to enter the whole creek.

This was exciting, I waited a long time for the tide to go back down. So I put on my LED headlight, **sorry if those are bad to possess, I apologize...and hooked a female. Is that bad? Anyways, I landed her and my light shined on her, and then I saw shiny scales YAY!and a white belly YAY!...see pics on page one, lol. Maybe 10 minutes later I landed another fish . It looked brighter than the 3rd, so I decided to keep it because I was wet, cold and it was getting too chaotic with all the fish. Since it was a female, the Russian (?) kid catching fish with a net next to me...yes, catching fish with a net ...asked if he could have the eggs. I gave them to him because I had enough eggs and he made me laugh...sorry if that was bad of me, I apologize. As mentioned before I decided to look for gear in the bushes and trees.

It was now really cold out and my hands were turning white. So I decided to leave. Actually, I was planning on spending the night in my car but it was too cold. I was then going to get a motel so I didn't have to drive all the way back out from PA, but a waste of money. I would have liked to fish it the next day, as I didn't have to work, but since I was all slimy, bloody, and cold I decided to just head home.

BTW, I am laughing as I type this, LOL

*denotes a hint of sarcasm
**more than a hint of sarcasm

LOL
LOL

Don't sweat it, BadFish. Just review the posts where people are trying to point you in the right directions and let the rest just roll off your back. You'll be posting pics of chrome bullets before you know it. Befreind some of the board members from P.A.. In the end, most people are happy to teach a willing learner.

Kaiser, I am LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY as I type. If they have the time to analyze and criticize everything I say, then I will put in the effort to respond and explain, IN DETAIL, my story. If it is too much to read and you do not have the time, then please refer to my pics and first post in THIS thread obviously. Wouldn't want any confusion there as this is not my very first post since I registered.

All I can say is, if the "Community", which I sooooo want to be a part of LOL, has any more NEGATIVE responses or questions for me, please do so in PM.

Or you can write to my complaint department at:
