Great post. I used to love this fishery, but now babies, mortgage, and honey do's have temporarily taken it away for a few years. I remember being out there facing that Dec/Jan 25 mph easterly 28 degree wind in the face for 5-6 hours.

I used to purty much tie the same rig, the only thing that I would add is maybe adding a good chunk of yarn to your top egg loop on the first hook (inside the hootchie) to soak up a selected scent. Placing a toothpick in the very top bead of the rig will keep it together and compact at all times. Long outgoing tides always seemed to be my favorite tide. If the wind is not bad, casting a mag wart off of the beach may surprise you! Don't wade in the water, keep your feet warm and dry, the fish usually take your rig within 15 yards of the beach.

I'll be back out there with my boys someday when there old enough. \:\)

I'm going to try that rig off my beach and I don't care if it takes 10,000 casts and 100 days.........I will get a steelhead down there. \:D

Addicted,
You ever use those Vision rolling drop swivels? Pretty slick for fixed wieght setups like that. I started using them and haven't looked back. Nice Post.

Hmm. Seeing this setup makes me wonder about a similar looking hoochie spinner for steel in the rivers. Anyone ever give this a shot? I picked up a summerrun on a gold vibrax with green skirt while looking for coho, but I have never bumped into a winter fish on a spinner despite many an hour having been devoted to the cause.

If it is a little slow fishing, try adding a cocktail size shrimp to the bottom hook.

Those are my go to swivel for slinging Dick Nites during Coho season.

Does anyone use this technique south of the Duwamish?
