I stupidly deleted a picture from my digital camera and wondered if any of the wizards on here could help. I have a Kodak Z700 and connect it to a computer that runs Windows XP Home Edition. I have found some software that will recover the picture, but it must see the camera as a drive (Hard or removable). I do not have a slot to read the card directly. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

With the camera powered on and connected, the card(drive) should be an option under My Computer. Is it an option there?

Sky guy - No it is not showing up in My Computer. Somehow I need to have it be seen as a drive in My Computer. If I had a card reader slot, that would work well, but I don't so I need to have the camera itself show up.

Yes, I connect the camera via a USB cable. Evidently, Kodak uses a protocol that does not allow Windows to see the camera as a drive. When I go to My Computer, I don't see the camera at all. The card with the picture on it is a SD memory card - 512 KB.

There may be a way to "rename" the usb port as a "drive"...

Good Luck, ...a new computer may be in order that has a card reader.

Damn! Sorry. Stupid fingers.

PS. Open up the Camera and Scanner Wizard in XP. If that can't open up your camera and mount it on your computer, you are probably hosed.

If you haven't taken any more pictures and overwritten the deleted file a place like costco/kits can recover it for you.

I realize that this is not what you are looking for but, I have personally had costco recover some pictures that I had deleted off my chip.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I have come up empty so far. Kits says they can try for $40 (nonrefundable) and the results are not guaranteed. I don't think it is worth that much. I should just go catch another. \:\)

SD card readers are cheap.

Link

That will identify as a removable drive in XP. You can then try your software...

Diver and everyone, I got the Radio Shack device, downloaded Vaiosoft Recovery freeware, and it was succesful. I have edited the original post on the fishing board. Thanks to all who helped.
