in that price range i'd look at the daiwa tierra, better reel IMHO. i've got a buddy that fishes the trions, they seem to either work well and last a long time, or they fall apart right away, kind of a gamble.

I don't have experience with the trion but I did fish the president for a couple seasons and found it to be a smooth reel but didn't seem to hold up too well. Took great care of it but wound up grinding and didn't have good enough gears for the bigger/hotter fish.

I have one and it was great for bass fishing as it cast well. I used it on Northern Pike in Canada liking it very much.

Then Chum season came and it went south in a hurry after 35 chums one week. The chums tore it apart as it couldn't stand up with really tough fighting fish.

I'd hesitate to recommend it for durability if you are doing a lot of river salmon fishing.

It is hard to know, I have Ambassaduer 7000 that is forty years old that works like a charm jigging Chinooks, but I have a brand new one that gave up the ghost after a trip to the Charlottes after maybe 25 Chinooks and several large lingcod in a week?

I guess you pay your money and take your chances.

Trion=POS. Fall apart right away x2. Get the Daiwa, or even an Abu. If you do get the trion, I have a "new" one that is beyond repair if you need parts.

how new? ALL of the big game reels since a year or two ago started being made somewhere in asia. guess it doesn't take much to get the swedish coat of arms any more(only the standard round ABUs are made in sweden anymore, the revo, 7000+ sized reels, EXT are all made elsewhere).

Look in the classifieds on here. Sometimes there are good deals.
