Hey Jerry is that 1363 your short boat rod you usually take? Ya, it's the one you guys make me leave in the truck as being too long for the boat.

I've been rocking an older Loomis 1261, 10'6" 4-10lb blank that I wrapped paired with a chronarch for hatchery brats and summerruns and have absolutely loved it. It's pretty lightweight and makes for a real fun fight on hatchery fish. For nates, springers, and chums I'm all about the Rainshadow RX8 1264 paired with an older 201 curado SF. It has also landed a few massive Vedder Whites against better judgement.

Custom built (by me) 12' 6" St. croix 4-10lb. Lower cork cut to forearm length...upper cork section fly rod length. Symetre 1,000 with 10lb (2lb diam.) spiderwire stealth. 4 to 8lb perfection leader depending on conditions. Great summie rod.

This is a helpful thread for me. I just got into float fishing in the past year or so. I've been using a Redington CPX 108C2 rated for 6-15. I want to get another float rod soon. I'll have to check out some of the other longer rods mentioned.

alright, in all seriousness, my lami X96MS(canadian spin) and X96JC(steelheader jig) have been good rods for bobber tossin'.
i can see getting a long rod for that kind of technique, but i like to drift fish and anything over 9'6 eats my wrists alive after a few hours.

LOL...yep I used to think I was the shniz lead thrower until a buddy of mine stood next to me and outhooked me 5 to 1. Since then I usually carry two rods of appropriate riggin. There are some amazingly lightweight long rods out these days. Guy I know on the nooch uses a frickin 14 1/2 footer but prolly weighs as much as a regular 9 footer. I just couldnt believe how light it was....didnt seem right. Alot to be said about a drift bite though...grin. Watchin a boober go down can be addicting as well.

Remeber wonder boy Jake is 6-8 and 280 and is thinking into this way to much. I like the 1262's 1263's qnd 1264's that Raishadow makes and the Herzog or Vedder Cerified smoke in the Lami's

After hearing all the guys fishing 12 & 13 and even 14' float rods, my little 1264 don't seem so big.....
Thanks for the input.

Chrome Don't get short mans rod complex Ok I have never fished any rod longer then a 1264 and those rods are so unbalanced and arm tiring I can't imagine what a 12-14 footer feels like.

Dave, that's why I went with the light & strong XST in a 10.5' float rod, I want the length to mend & keep the line off the water..... And I want it without wearing out my shoulder socket. Those guys fishing the real long rods must a tough manley lot..... c/22
