My 21 year old Daughter called me last week to announce that she and her husband are expecting their first child. Immediately made the mistake of calling my mom to cry on her shoulder about my midlife crisis.
  Duh.
And then... (no and then) Upon announcing the news to my beautiful young 28 year old girlfriend (its not all its cracked up to be fellas)... she waited about two hours to tell me that SHE is pregnant too.

  Oy!
So Im sitting here at the piscatorial pursuits round-table, seeking the advice of my elders. Too much for this 42 year old teenager to handle. Shower me with your wisdom before I answer the call of the 30 year old bottle o' scotch screaming my name from the unlocked cabinet.

Tom is a true visionary. If not entirely delusional.

Better marry her and secure your rights or plan on paying child support for the next 18+ years.

COTR,
Congrats on the future granddad status.
It doesn't sound as though you were contemplating a celebratory swig from the bottle, so I presume you're not excited about being a father again at 42. What does your GF want? She is the one controlling your destiny now. If she wants a baby, you'll still be raising that child until you're 60.
My youngest finished high school when I was 48. I don't know about you, but I discovered that I just don't have the energy level that child rearing takes any more. I like kids and once thought I might take in a foster child after my own grew up and left home. The reality check of me being older changed my mind on that option. Another side of it is that while I'm more able to afford the cost of raising kids now, it's really nice to be done paying college expenses and spending some of my earnings on trips to AK, Europe, or Mexico, etc.
Having unprotected sex at your age makes you . . . well, what Sol said. You could try the Hail Mary. Best of luck.
  Sg

Ouch, you have no rights now. You can either cough up the dough for a ring or perpare to grab your ankles. Of course if you are a sweet talker.........you might be able to get out of it. Good luck man. I went through that at eighteen and am still writing checks now. I will follow what seems to be the theme. Paying child support out of your social security, wow. Your Fuct!

To late now, but you should have seen the plumber before hand to work on your pipes. A buddy of mine just became a father of twins at 46. He'll be 64 with two high school senior girls. He's even more fucted then you are. Good Luck

Well, in a feeble attempt to put a positive spin on your situation, at least the kids will have a relative close to their own age to play with. My youngest brother and my sister's oldest son are 3 months apart. Now both are in their mid-40's and best friends. They're in business together and their kids are good buddies also. Might not sound too cool at this point but it's the best I could come up with.
