Do we have anyone out there that is making their own bio or knows someone that is. I am looking into buying a unit but what to know alittle more from someone that is doing it before I use Mr. Bushes tax rebate check to keep me from using his gas pumps.
Thanks

I am not making my own, but I have looked in to it quite a bit. If you have the space it can be done relatively easy. The up front costs are going to be installing heaters on your tanks and lines in your vehicle and the cost of the setup to purify the bio (if you plan to use WVO). From what I have read you should expect to pay about .75 per gallon using WVO. There is a lot of information out there on the topic if you google it.

I have a guy that I work with that has been making it for about two years. He's heating his house with it too. The key is to get enough restaurants, etc., to give you the raw product. I have heard that the restaurants want to sell it to you now. When he first started using it he drove his 1 ton with his fifth wheel to California and back using his own biodiesel. He had some filter problems originally however, he has since refined the process and changes his fuel filters every three to four months.

I own a 2004 Ford 6.0 l. I am curious what I'll do to the motor. Ford is still saying you need a 80/20 split with diesel and biodiesel for their warranty to remain in effect.

I think when I retire in less than a year I'll seriously look more into the set-up and give it a go. I'll need to build a small building to house everything. I'm out of room in my shop. I figure my set-up costs with a 10' x 12' building will be around $3500.00.

I currently only tow my sled with my pick-up and fish every 7 to 10 days. It's $100.00 to go fishing now. What will it be in a year? My buddy said it costs him about a $1.00 a gallon to produce. Sure beat the daylights out of $4.35 a gallon.

Good luck! Captain

The biggest change you need to make to your truck if you use anything stronger than B-5 is replacing the rubber fuel lines and maybe a couple rubber seals with PVC or plastic.

The reason why is that Biodiesel is a natural solvent and will erode rubber parts.

Interesting that this topic should come up. I had a guest speaker from the Hoquiam biodiesel facility come in to do a presentation for my kids today. She said there are numerous "do-it-yourself" operations throughout the country.....all legal and safe if done correctly.

I don't own a diesel but if I did, with prices the way they are, I'd probably look into it too.

It's an amazing fuel when compared to the like of petrol diesel.

how much are you looking at spending to get your little biodesiel factory up and running? how much biodeisel do you get from a gallon of oil? Is there waste? Where do you dispose of the waste? Is there a cost associated with waste disposal? How much can you pay for your dirty oil and still come out ahead assuming desiel sells for $4 a gallon (all it takes is one other guy in your area and the oil may not be free).

How old is your rig? Do you have a warrenty? Are you ok with voiding your warrenty?

Methane can't be compressed for some reason. Dunno where I read that.

My methane seems to be released under considerable pressure.

Fishmaster sure was nice hearing what you know about the biopro I looked at it today. I would have to say for all the units out there it surely looks like the way to go. Thanks again for the info and we will have to stop in sometime to make a batch of bio-moonshine.

Like I said the biggest thing is to secure a consistant supply of oil and you will have no problems. Be consistant with your pick ups and be clean. Be sure they have your phone number in case they fill there barrel up unexpectedly.
