According to this test, floro has as much stretch as mono
Florocarbon line tests
an interesting read

I am going to have to call out the flourocarbon one. Granted, I have not used it in a long time, but for good reason. It seemed to me that even the slightest nick in the line and you would break it the minute you put any strain on it.

I prefer to go with a good mono. leader and a spool of braided. The braid allows for that sensitivity and no stretch hook set if you are fishing in bigger rivers where you have a decent stretch of line out. The mono lead keeps the vis down. Just my two cents.

Anyone else like white PP? I started using white after using a friends float rod that had Fireline Crystal on it. Must just be my eyes, but I can see it just as well as the hi vis yellow. Haven't tried it in the snow yet ......... grin

As far as fluorocarbon goes, I've had great luck with Seaguar.

Another vote for PowerPro for float fishing. I use the red on my plug rods and green on my float rods. IMO is better than Tufline for float fishing atleast.

As far as Flouro goes, in my experience Berkely and maxima suck the big one. I've been using P-line FlouroClear for drift fishing leaders and P-Line 100% flouro for leader for plugs, divers, herring, prawns, etc. The FlouroClear seems to have really good knot strength and abrasion resistance compared to other 100$ flouro's. It also doesn't sink quite as fast as 100% flouro which i have actually noticed when side-drifting, less snags and abrasion.

And both FlouroClear and 100% Flourocarbon claim to be "Virtually Invisible" by P-line and since the FlouroClear is only coated, it seems to have more desirable properties over the 100%.

Again, this is only my experience and some personal speculation.

Spider Wire Ultracast, yellow, summer- 10 or 15lb. The most quiet, smooth and mono like braid I have ever used. Uni or blood knot, cut tag ends flush to knot then super glue, 10' of 8 or 10lb. Gamma High Performance Copolymer on the working end. I prefer the blood knot if tied correctly, because of its smaller profile to cast through the guides smoothly.

I just use 10-lb limp mono and put some musclin on it.

I just can't get in tune with the braid for steelhead float fishing.

Some materials can be placed under a specific, constant load or stress and then, bounce back or recover from that stress once the pressure is relieved. Monofilament is a good example of this. While it might be stretchy if held between your fingers and pulled, once you stop and let go it returns to its original length. Fluorocarbon does not share this ability.

IMO, it is THIS characteristic that causes me grief when fluoro is used with PP......fluoro, beyond the initial stretch, lacks the ability to "cushion" the shock of head shakes....... And I hate breaking them off. smile
