I read last night in the local Woodland newspaper that the WDFW is having a telephone conference call today to decide an emergency closure on the Cowlitz, Kalama, and Lewis rivers for spring Chinook.

Looking on the WDFW info board I can find no evidence of a meeting. Anyone else read this or know the details of the closure ideas?

Thanks in advance.

No,
But this should be open to the public and we should have been notified.

Fly,

By definition an emergency closure is, . . . well, an emergency. As such they are not subject to prior notice or public input requirements. If the rate of return to the hatchery rack is so poor that meeting broodstock requirements is at risk, then emergency fishing closures are warranted. From what I hear, fishing is a bust this year on each of those rivers.

Who's up for shad this weekend?

It's about the only anadramous species left open in the CR.

Doc,
I might take you up on that!

But the way things are going, I'm gonna sell my bay boat. So I can put a down payment on a "Sparkle Barge" and start fishing for "Ditch Pickles"!!!

With the shad counts at 350 yesterday I wouldn't go just yet. Now Pike minnow (Squawfish) on the other hand may be just the ticket.
I think I'll start to target suckers and squawfish , plenty of them,no season and no limit. Hey Jerry do you think the WDFW will require me to get another guide license for them if I start running trips?

The Sportfishermen and the Commercials ripped the DFW at a meeting in Cathlamet, They the DFW will try harder next year to get us a longer season on the lower Columbia, A gillnetter called the shortened season this year as " Metro- Hijacking" because of the long season the Willamette got. This should of been a good meeting to be attended by all of us and had no mention of this , anyone else heard of the meeting?

Since both groups have already "harvested" their allocated amount of fish.. probably more.. and the run appears it will be smaller than predicted.

What are they "ripping" the DFW about ???

Just askin.

Is this where somebody says they should harvest even MORE fish before they have a clue how many there really may be ??
