The guy in Sumner was the Antique Angler.

He closed up shop a year or so ago and stopped working on reels. Ollie Damon's in Portland is the closest place I'm aware of that will work on reels.

I think this guy on Craigslist was the former owner of Antique Angler. He's been advertising on CL for the last year or two, and mentioned once or twice (I vaguely recall) that he used to own AA

save yourself some coin. call ollie damons, give them the reel make and ask for the drag washer. put it in yourself. its actually simple. 95 cents in postage for a single drag washer. thats right, one drag washer. compared to shipping the reel both ways. not mention the labor... this is just an option of course.

What brewer said, other than I'd use something other than a factory Curado washer. They suck.

Get yourself some of the Carbontex drags and some of the Cal's reel grease:

http://www.smoothdrag.com/

Use this website as a references on how to easily replace a drag washer.

http://www.ifish.net/board/showthread.php?t=111688&highlight=Curado+Rebuild

Honestly, if you can replace a lightbulb in your house, replacing a drag washer is not any more difficult.

My uncle owns Tumwater Sports and he has a guy that comes in and will pick up reels and do repairs/maintenance. I have heard nothing but good things from him and I plan on dropping off a couple myself.

They're surprisingly easy to swap out, even the first time...it's as easy as any other maintenance once you've done it once.

At about $5 to $10 per reel, it's a seriously bargain way to make your reels almost new again...I put them in new reels, even, and make them better than new right from the get go.

Fish on...

Todd

Another vote for Ollie Damons. They rework all of our salmon and halibut reels every year...well worth the money. I have six Penn 345 GTi's that have lasted 6 years under extremely heavy use, as well as a dozen Tekota's that keep on truckin'. They'll keep getting my reels!

I remembered this post from a few weeks ago as my Bantum Curado is in need of work. I went to the Craig's list link for the Seattle area repair-person from Antique Angler and the post is expired. Anybody get his contact info?
