A little change of pace on the clamming scene this past week-end for me ... oh, we'll get those razors to bring home for our winter statsh ... but we needed a more immediate feast.

We dug these Sunday, and we're still having a feast every night :p

Had we shown up more than 10 minutes before low, we might have actually got our limit of 1K each

Steamers.....Yummie. I would have left the butters in the dirt but thats just me.

There. You happy now? You made me hurl.



PS. Clams have yet to make me barf. The short lists now only includes raw spot prawns and mussels.

I love squid!!!! Calamari is yummy. Octopus is good too. Actually, I like octopus over squid.



I have a "selective" shellfish allergy. What that allergy is being selected for, I have no freakin' clue!

I used to leave the butters in the dirt too ... but a friend up here showed me a trick ... and oh my ... they go quicker than the steamers now. Next round I cook, I'll take a couple of pix

Any day now for the first big push of brats! Like you said over there, it could be fast and furious for those hatchery fish.

Kenai guides are all struggling, even with bait. Be prepared for a lot more company when things get going on the little river.

I'm leaving Friday morning for my Kasilof R&R, hoping Bob gets me into a few of those.

When we dug that many clams last year in SE AK we hung them in bags from the dock in seawater. They would keep for a very long time that way.

good idea prolly helps filter some of the sand allso. Do you then let them soak in some corn meal water before cooking ?

Just saltwater.

Eating a pile of clams like that may cause you to shiat like a seagull.

when i was a kid we used to give them a bath in corn meal they would filter it through just like sand clams were never gritty. Smoked clams sound awfully good .

I'll post the butter clam recipe in a few. A dab of cornmeal added to the water helps out in getting them to cycle though any sand ... but don't add a gob of it and if you plan on keeping them for a bit, I always keep a second cooler of seawater to tansfer them into after a couple of days. Ate the last ones last night. Yeah, I'm pooping like a gull, but damn, were they good
