Krill seems to be one of the new "hot" scents for both fresh and saltwater fishing. It's also usually in fish food that you can buy in any pet store.

As far as I've been able to find, it's also illegal to sell, buy, or possess in the State of Washington.

*****************************

WAC 220-20-013 Unlawful possession and sale of unclassified marine invertebrates. (1) It is unlawful to deliver krill taken for commercial purposes from state or offshore waters into Washington state, and it is unlawful to possess krill taken for commercial purposes. Violation of this subsection is punishable under RCW 77.15.140.

(2) It is unlawful to traffic in krill. Violation of this subsection is punishable under RCW 77.15.260.

[Statutory Authority: RCW 77.12.047. 05-01-132 (Order 04-320), § 220-20-013, filed 12/16/04, effective 1/16/05.]

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

My guess is that this law applies to krill in whole form, and not in the form of an extract or oil, which is probably what scent manufacturers use during the brewing process.

Except that's not what it says.

Possession of krill (less than $250 worth) is a gross misdemeanor...more than $250 worth and it is a Class C Felony.

The purpose of the law is to stop krill harvest, since it is messing up the ocean's ecological balance...what form it's in, or where you got it, doesn't affect that whatsoever...if it's krill, it's illegal to harvest, sell, buy, or possess.

Maybe somebody should fire up a bong hit of straight krill and see if the law knows something the rest of us don't ?? Seems like only the best things in life are illegal

Where does it state the purpose of this law in the text? I agree with Sky-Guy...this is intended only to apply to whole krill...not oils/extract.

It says it in the same place in the text where it says "only applies to whole krill"...which is "nowhere"...

A Google search comes up with references to stopping the krill trade to protect the ocean's krill populations, since they feed virtually everything else in the ocean...and taking oils or extracts from a krill doesn't do it any more favors than selling bags of krill bodies frozen into bricks.

When the WDFW Commission adopted the rule, at least according to the minutes there was very little discussion...the rule just passed unanimously and they moved onto the next one. I haven't been able to find much else about it than that, really...

Those pics are re-treads.
We have till July before they close local rivers.
With such ridiculous fuel prices I haven't been out yet.
I'll be furiously pitching hardware in the coming few weeks though.

This year it's gonna be deer & elk hunting and lake fishing filling up the memory cards.
I'll keep you posted...

Todd -

What you are saying makes sense - I don't disagree. Typical regs - VAGUE. I have a solution...all you WA guys can ship your unused krill scents down to Salmonella and I and we will hang onto them for you. Wouldn't want you to get popped by the man on the river, so willing to do this for you. I'm a giver...

In California it's not illegal to possess krill, but it is illegal to go out and catch it...

I don't hardly ever use scent, so I don't have any to send you...I'm sure a few dudes will be in a hurry to get it to you, though!

Is it possible that the Krill that is being sold as fish attractant isnt actually made from krill. It may very well be a chemical formula that exhibits the same odor as krill.
