My dad left behind a bunch of fly rods, some of which are bamboo. Im looking for someone who can appraise the market value of the rods and hopefully find a forum or dealer to sell them

I would appreciate suggestions.

Thanks.

whatever you do, make sure you get several different opinons. Most likely they are not worth much, but if they are not the cheap imports from over seas in the post WWII era and have the original wraps, they could be worth quite a bit.

LB, a general rule of thumb for what cane rods are worth is:

Rods that were built in japan are worth very little. Rods that were made in the USA are the ones that can bring big money if they are in good condition. Quality rods that are under 8' in length demand the most $$$$$. Too many variables too list on here. I have been collecting for 20 years and have a pretty good idea what most things are worth. I might add that some rods in Europe can be very desirable too.

If you would like send me some info and I can steer you in to the right direction.

SD, is right determining what you have and the condition is most important. The bay is great place to determine the liquidation value. While cane can command a high price you might have along wait to get top dollar unless you have something highly desirable. If they are not "collectors" piece you might consider keeping them to fish, i use cane for trout and love the experience.

A friend of mine, since passed away, used to take any bamboo rod he could find and rebuild/refinish them. Might be able to find somebody who would be interested in doing that to an "average" rod.
