Reports I've seen have been 50-70 miles out. To far for me to make a run on my days off. I've something like ten weeks of vacation on the books, was denied vacation time this week; perhaps a blessing with the cost of fuel.

When we were launching late on Saturday night at Westport, we talked to one boat about 27' that said they were headed out 75-90 miles to give it a try. Not sure how they ended up doing, but it sounds like they are getting closer and closer each week. Looks like the warm water is still quite a ways offshore on coastwatch.

Hope they come in a little closer by Aug. 10th. Heading out with my cousin (the skipper) on the GOLDRUSH.

They probably won't get any closer than 40 to 50 miles.

I saw a report on another board that mentioned hitting fish 70 miles out SW of Westport.

I'll take 40-50 miles all season long. It's the 65-70+ stuff that doesn't sound like fun.Good luck,

hohbomb, if your looking for a ride, I can arrange one with a couple of good captains.

They are both telling me to wait a couple of more weeks right now.

I was one of the boats mentioned in the report. We went 7 for 9 about 68 miles out.

Too far but hey came back with more than enough in reserve. Ran a total of about 170 miles. Burned 39 gallons of liquid gold. Not too bad nice fish.

Here is something from another site:

you can view the performance bulletin on the yamaha website (yamaha.com) and it will show you the fuel consumption numbers for the F 150 on various boats. I looked at the numbers for the 18'Edgewater, which is similar to the Outrage 18. Here is just a short summary of the numbers.

rpm mph gph

3000 19.8 3.5
3500 26.5 5.1
4000 30.5 6.3
4500 35.5 8.3
5000 40.1 10.5
5500 45.7 14.3
5800 47.7 14.5

Obviously the boat will make a difference but from this chart, you could run at 3500 RPM for a total of 7 hours, going 185 miles, burning 36 gallons. That sounds like a lot of fuel for 184 miles, hooktender. What kind of boat are you running?

Tender,

How was that fuel bill? Tuna in the can might be the better option....

Or, instead of the gas you could have nearly spent the same money on a plane ticket to go and catch a marlin....

I've got an identical boat to Jason. His fuel numbers are very similar to mine.

I've put just over 80 miles on my boat last week. According to my flow meter I burned 19 gallons of fuel. Thats 4.21 mpg.

170 miles divided by 4.21 mpg is 40.38 gallons.

I'm thinking part of your issue is the Suzuki. When I bought my Seahawk I was strongly considering a 140 Suzuki. During my research, I read more than one dyno report on the 140 Suzuki. The Suzukis dynoed at about 127-128 hp.

Apparently Suzukis are known for being over-rated hp wise. If a 140 Suzuki is actually only putting out 127-128 hp,you're having to run your engine alot harder than Jason or I have to run ours.
