I go with the Spectra braid (PP) too, in diameters ranging from 10# to 30#, using all colors for different situations, for my bobber dunking,

Stren, 20# test, which is 6 lb diameter in either green or gold. Will wrap around rod tip at times, but picks up off the water quick for a solid set.

I've recently started fishing braid on my spinning reel.. It's on a 9 1/2' 9 weight fly blank spinning rod.. Pretty nice setup for float and drift fishing all in all.. absolutely love the 20# power pro for float fishing... That stuff lays right on top of the water.. Beats the hell outta trying to mend mono!! I'll use either 10 or 12 lb ultragreen for leader, usually no more than about 24" so that I can fish those shallower pockets with no troubles! Good solid hookset with that lighter rod!!

I'm certainly no expert when it comes to braid, but have been using it alot this past year. Here are my conclusions. It sure is different, I can say that. Hook sets are right on, diameter is great for reducing drag and the shiats for working with backlashes and tangles. Damn tip wrap, especially in windy conditions, and freezing weather are big downsides for braid also. And the price for braids is, well, pricey. BUT, having said all that, I've found that for use with limber rods, it is a trip! I have a number of rods that I no longer used because they lacked enough backbone to handle mono well. Juiced them up with braid, whole different animal, and now I'm trying out some even lighter rods (oh, man, here we go again). Just picked up a Lami 8 and half footer with a 8 to 12 lb rating, loaded a new Curado with 20 lb high viz PP and am waiting for the water to give me a chance to try it out. At some point there has to be the perfect line for all fishing circumstances......doesn't there?

I'm with Slab Happy on the merits of marrying a braid to a noodle rod. I'm building a super slow action parabolic 10 footer rated for 2-6 lb test for just such an emergency,

30# PP for float rods, spoons and spinner, and drift fishing. You can feel the individual blade revolutions.
As far as cost goes, I have a number of reels that I spooled up with PP almost a year ago, and I fish with them regularly. Try doing that with mono. When the color fades, swap ends and you have a fresh spool of line.
50# PP for plug rods.

Agree with lighter rods with moderate actions for braided line. Having the drag set too tight is also a problem. The line can dig into the line stacked on the spool. Keeping tension on the line while spooling will help, but not on a really hard pull. Also for spinning reels, close the bail by hand. The line can get wrapped around the bail if you engage the bail by reeling without tension on the line.

Eric - Stren makes a very good braided line. I use a small barrel swivel and start with a 3-4 foot leader. 8# ultra green. Works well for us!!!

POWER PRO ROCKS.
But, I have been checking our this Suffix stuff... not too bad... very round and possibly coated as well. IMHO.
