Plenty advice on which rod to buy already so I will leave that alone.I fished long sticks for years though and will recomend the lightest you can afford. They are a blast to fish with and definately open up some new water to the banky. But they will add a new pain level to a day on the river.
I used to joke that if my back hurt that bad at work I would not go to work

A few other things to think about...

Try using weights at the bottom of the rod to take away some of the "tip weight" if that is a problem.

Also, I don't like spinning reels a whole lot but I'd highly recommed using one in this case. With a rod that long, you might struggle keeping it out of bushes and trees so it will be easier to flip something light with a spinning reel instead of "casting" a baitcast reel.

For me, 13' seems really long. I think I'd spend all day untwisting line off the tip.

after you get use to using a rod that long its the same as using 8.5ft it just seems natural.
