You know I don't really fish GH or the Chehalis that much and only check this thread every once and a while….but I do feel that some of you are completely missing yelloweye’s (YE) message here. I agree with him…regardless of how you feel about preseason forecasts (as when you refer to paper fish I assume that’s what you are talking about), someone will take those fish in a fishery. I heard Rep. Blake wanted a meeting called over the fishery schedule….that should tell you already that someone is eyeing those “paper fish”. And if the non-treaty side doesn’t take them…..then YE is completely right, the tribe will take them. I don’t think YE (correct me YE if I’m wrong or I'm putting words in your mouth) is advocating for fishing into escapement here….if everybody is so adamant about how many fish should make it back to the gravel THEN CHANGE THE ESCAPEMENT GOAL. That’s a different issue, as otherwise the tribes &/or the nonindian commercials will take the harvestable surplus….I think it’s way too naïve to think by self limiting the sport fishery the other groups are going to let those 500 fish make it to the gravel. Really all you are doing is handing those fish over to another harvest group. If you can’t see that….well then I suppose you folks are the same ones who thought the mark selective fisheries in the ocean would be a slam dunk with the tribes too….

My take, and I am new to all of it:

I think everyone involved understands that somehow there is a risk there (the QIN moving in and taking the remaining available impacts), but the harvest model is what it is. The point of all of that is, the non-treaty side (sports and cowboy) are going to adhere to the tier plans set for the basin aimed at conservation. So that, when the fish are under-escaped one of the fingers of blame is not aimed at us, and we can work on changing the models or escapement goal or whatever to protect the resource.

You know, people in glass houses . . .

I think we are trying to let our long term goals, over ride our short term greed.

Regs are out on WDFW pages.

GH/2-2 is no Kings and 1 unmarked Coho along with 1 hatchery Coho.

Perfect for this local as the launch is 4 blocks from my house.

I wouldn't drive very far otherwise for this fishery.

NOF/PFMC is finished, but agreement with the tribal co-managers is still in limbo for Grays Harbor.

WDFW is still working on chipping away at tribal exploitation objectives for depressed paper chum and chinook... will post details when more info is available.
