I have lived on Mason Lake in Mason Co for 7 years now and have always checked with the Dept of fish and game, and they have never, according to their list, stocked Mason Lake Why not, there is hardly a fish to be caught, other then perch in the summer and a few trout, I always talk to people out fishing and they always report nothing.

is there a public launch on mason lake? i have been told that the state will not stock a lake without a public launch.

Give them a call and ask. They have always responded to me when I had a question.

I have always wondered the same thing. I know of one public launch area and also at least one private launch on the lake.We have spent a lot of time on the lake in the past and have had very limited sucsess catching bows.

In the "old days" 75-77, I'd pull my boat and would have the whole lake to myself....caught a few trolling small spoons and hillabrants with worms. They were small fish, and I discoved other fisheries closer to Aberdeen.

I think the answer is that the lake is managed for Kokanee or that was the big draw of the lake for years. If you call they may confirm that with you.

Mason Lake will be getting a new boat ramp and parking area at the old public launch. I have caught some decent kokanee in 10" to 14" range using down riggers but this was 20 years ago. Also there was a good run of sivers that went up the creek but there is a old cuvert under the railroad tracks on Green Diamond property that is in bad condition, fish had a very hard time getting up into the culvert which made it perfect for all the snaggers to slaughter the fish. Green Diamond roads are now gated, Don't know what it is like now. How about a run of sockeye into Mason Lake or Isabell lake both have large streams in and out and how about planting steelhead or bringing back the chums into Godsbrough creek where they used to be so thick it was hard to fish for the steelhead. Its the same all over Mason and Grays Harbour county beatiful water and prime spawning grounds but not many fish. We are never going to wild fish back into the smaller streams with all the nets, it doesen't matter who stes them, nets are killers of all fish. With no fish plants in small streams they will soon be dead except for a few resident fish. I know there must be property owners with small clean streams that would be willing to have a little fish hatchery on there property, these would help put fish runs back into the main river system. Too many ot these smaller streams are going down hill fast. Also the state record SQUAW fish was caught out of Mason lake.

I have an uncle that owns a cabin on the lake. (I'm sure everybody else does too) So many houses on that lake. Anyways, theres a natural sustaining fish population in this lake. I my self have caught searun cutts upto 4 lbs. this is done as soon as the sun comes up from Feb. to about mid to late April. I've also witnessed Chum, Sockeye, and Steelhead return to two nearby streams that feed the lake. Also some of the largest large-mouth I've ever seen. It also holds a crap load of perch and rock bass with a few channel cats. Heard of the kokanee but never have caught one. Also tons of peamouth chub in the lake. To stock the lake would be taking away precious food that keeps the natural stock healthy. Doesn't make much sense to put fish into a lake that already has an abundant poppulation of fish. Bunker
