Thanks, Double Haul. What I observed does meet with the description in the report. As I stated before, I have no objection to blocking motorized access to the area in question - that's probably a good thing.
I guess my concern stemmed from the fact that there was no easy (or even moderately challenging) way to get around the mass of fallen trees. I know it's not a top priority in a restoration effort to make sure fishermen will be able to access the river easily, and that's fine, but this had the feel of someone trying to keep EVERYONE out, and I just wanted some assurance that would not be the fate of most or all of the many access points along the river.
I did notice that there is a decent trail off the left side of the road. I followed it, but it ended up at the creek bed. Sure, a guy in waders could easily walk in right down the creekbed, but I wouldn't advocate doing that, especially in a creek that likely supports spawning fish (it would be almost impossible to avoid damaging redds in tiny water like that). I hope that's not the way people are getting in there now.
Again, I am confident this activity is good for the fish, and that's not a bad thing. As for me, I suppose I will have to quit whining and beat some brush next time I am there. I could probably use the exercise.
