I am planning on camping at Potholes the week after 4th of July. I haven' t been there in several years. Curious if anyone knows of a place to camp besides Mar-Don? Is the walleye fishing still decent there? Is overall fishing still decent there? What is the water level right now? Low? High?

Thanks

The state park is right there. It has a great launch and is a pretty nice park. Fish the dam face for smallmouth

The last time I went, the state park was great for RV guys. Nice green sites closer to the water with barbecue stations etc. For those in tents it was much different. Dry and dusty and far from the water. Also, the yellow jackets were brutal. We had to wait til dark in the tent to make dinner and at least two of our neighbors were stung. We will never go back there. I have heard that it can be really fun fishing back in the channels for smallmouth.

if you're cheap, there's quite a few places to camp right on the water up in lind coulee.

we were there last month, the walleye fishing was really slow(the water hadn't warmed up much yet), we ended up going over to moses lake and having much better luck.

just wish the spiny ray fishing was still decent in potholes and moses. not much else left to fish for other than walleye and bass now.

We've done well on walleye in the dunes trolling hot lips at 3.5 to 4mph. The lure is literally dredging a path through the sand. It feels like your going too fast and that your crankbait rod is going to snap in the rod holder but it works. For years we did the wedding ring tipped with what-ever, trolling slower than frozen molasses but the high-speed deep diving crank bait deal produced way more fish. Bring GPS or pay close attention or you may be spending the night in the dunes....

On camping I agree w/ Brant. State park looks cool for RVs, it was not so cool for us in tents. I'd do what CM said, cross the damn and find one of the many unimproved sites on the coulee.

Happy fishing, bring ur sunscreen!
