Looking for a nice, but inexpensive summer run rod (light action)

Same here. I think the gloomis str1083c is what I'm going to get for fishing the Sky. Haven't decided on a reel yet. Any sales going on out there?

I have very very lightly used GL2 1083C in the new form with the blank through the reel seat and the glossy finish, that I can get rid of for $130
plus $8 for shipping, that is ifinterested

Sorry about that I meant to put $120 for just the 1083C

the $130 is for the 1083C and a Shimano Bantam Chromica which is a right handed retrieve bait casting reel that is suited perfectly for summer or winter steelies. By the way the rod has been used twice and the reel a fem more times but both are in excelent condition. This would make a great setup for a cheap price tag.

What do you think would be better for the Sky, Baitcasting or Spinning? I was looking at the 1083s or any gloomis 9' spinning for the skykomish.

Are you going to be fishing from a boat or bankin it? If from the bank I would recomend bait caster just because you will want to cast further distances and use more weight and from a boat where you dont need to cast as far or use as much weight a spinning rod will come in hand especially for booning.

FishIntheBox - Do you have any pics or links to pics that show the rod and reel? Where are you located? I'm in the Everett area. Thanks

Spinning rod works fine for the sky, get a decent reel (okuma or shimano) it can cast as far as a baitcaster. I prefer the spinning it works good for all around use, float fishing, boondogging, drifting(baitcaster better for drifting) IMO.. and my shimano(spheros) spinning will hold 170 of 8# test.
BTW you don't need to cast real far at the sky,IMO, most of the time fish are holding along the edge or within normal casting distance!, especially in this high water we have had, and will continue to have.
For a rod, I would suggest looking at the TH rods, very good for the price, I use a 1084, I like the size.
If you want inexpensive I would get a berkely air IM7 buzz model, 8' 6" kind of on the short side but good size for price, and a nice rod!
These are only my opinions, the rest of suggestions are great as well!

hope that helps!!
