I went back down to the Goldendale area when the antlerless deer season opened on the 16th. After getting to the ranch, signing in, and getting an idea where the deer were, I was off on the spot-and-stalk.

Immediately got to within 40 yds of four bedded deer but when they stood up they never gave a good shot. Moved to the other end of the ranch and played with another 40 or so deer. This year I had a number of them 10-20 yds but always with a problem such as another deer behind them.

I finally played hide and seek with one that finally walked into the open and stopped. I shot a tad high, hitting the upper chest and it went on to the spine. Dropped her right there.

So, the deer is now at he butcher's and the skin getting tanned.

Already planning for next year!

Its a lot of fun when you have multiple opportunities. Got to love that spine shot. I have dropped two that way, brings em right down. Congrats...........thumbs

Thanks. I was amazed that it just dropped. Should also note that this was the first deer I ever got essentially all by myself. With the others, I was hunting with my Dad or other partners who knew where the deer were, knew where I should be, and so on.

It was a lot of fun trying to figure out where they were (all over) and what they were going to do next.

The landowner and I were talking about "ethical hunters". I try to be one, but it is much easier when you know that passing up a marginal shot because there will be better opportunity. Made me think, especially after all the issues we have seen this year on the rivers.

Congrats to ya .... it makes tracking so much easyier when they drop like that. All my deer seem to find the steepest and most brutal hills known to man and take their last breath at the bottom. Its always a fun day packing them out. Agin congrats
