Shane and Jennifer Aggergaard, owners of Island Adventures is providing our transport. Good thing since the ferries don't run that late. If we did take a ferry it would cost about $15 then hotel cost. I reserved a spot today and asked the price. They were very nice and said, 'toss in some gas money if you can and want to'. Yes, I want to. It's a really nice jesture they've made that I sincerely appreciate.

Last night I heard the scientist founder of the whale museum take our side. I give him points for that intelligent decision. Let's be firm and professional. We're not like the 'Friends' group and we are a power that can not be ignored.

Here's a link to a very good article on last nights meeting:
http://www.threesheetsnw.com/blog/2009/10/crowd-says-no-go-to-proposed-orca-rules/

The vessel wil be at Cap Sante, Dock A. See you there!

It was more of the same. That NOAA Missed the boat when they wrote the regulation. Sound Watch went on record as not in favor of the No Go Zone from shore to 1/2 mile off. They still want a 200 yard separation, a Speed limit in the area, and enforcement,
My problem with all of this is in 2007 NOAA put out for input on the regulations. We as a group Sport Fishing Enthusiasts where not aware of it an because of that we had top play catch up. 85 comments or so where made to NOAA. They used bad and faulty Science to come up with this proposal and hopefully they will rescind or modify it. Was a Universal comment that to improve the Orcas you have to address the Salmon Issue.

Last night two members of the CCA were there, one from the North Sound Chapter and the other Gentleman was from Auburn Chapter. No One from the State was there. This is a matter that concerns all of us. Besides the Columbia River (CCA HAS THAT COVERED THEY SAY) who is out for our Interests in the Puget Sound. I thought wrong when I thought CCA was for the Sound. PSA is a Fishing Club.

What Organization is Political that is for Sport Fishing in PUGET SOUND?

CCA is building chapters around the Sound. I think/hope you'll see more involvement in the PS issues.

PSA chapters aren't "run" by the state board. The chapters and their members work the issues as best they can and usually more behind the scenes with individual contacts.

The CCA Skagit Valley rep who testified at Friday Harbor was articulate and professional. State CCA reps were meeting with other fishing reps with cloud working on this issue on another front we can't get to. WDFW is deciding their stand on guidelines/rules right now too. So there's a lot going on simultaneously and I think we're right on target to get to help create a new proposal after the comment period is over October 27th.

I missed the 2007 first request for comments and wish I had known. What comments get submitted can make a difference. Sincere thanks Larry Carpenter and an email from Mike Dunnigan to CAPS members. Then through out the fishing clubs and net boards and within one week WE become a strong force that had to be recconded with. We always talked about unity and it has happened better than I've seen before.

I was concerned when I went to the Friday Harbor meeting I was in enemy territory. I had a lot of sportie company though. : )

Mark Anderson, first Orca museum curator must have felt that way at the Seattle meeting. He changed back to idiot at FH. It became apparent that the only proponents of banning boats were Mark and his few affiliates. The residents, city/co governments, businesses came out in force to let NOAA know they were enraged at this proposal. They appear to realize this proposal should be rewriten already. Turns out the chairman of the Orca museum Board of Directors testified he fired Mark Anderson a long time ago and would do it again!

The comments at these three meetings are making the difference. Soon I hope we'll all back one new proposal that makes some sense like keep funding hatcheries so there's plenty of king salmon, better education and hope it will be consistent with WDFW and Canadian reg's.

Very cool watching this turn around. Thanks to all who submit comments. Larry Carpenter, owner of Master Marine in Mt Vernon, hired retired federal fishing reg expert Frank Urabeck to lead the charge, negotiate and write the final comment document. I hope those with enough money able to assist would consider joining me in donating to the $10,000 Larry paid out. It took one dedicated fisherman willing to spend the money to get this rolling. Frank is worth every penny and it's an honor to work with him.

Please CCA Come out of the closet. We need the Numbers and the only way I see is to let a little more info out of the bag/closet. The only way we will grow!
Todd might even change his mind and join
Boater is hopelessly stuck though

Thanks Deb for Your post to clarify a few things that I did not. I was not there in Seattle or Anacortes.

I just wanted to quickly attest that CCA Washington is working hard on this issue and has since the notice went out in 2009. A member alerted us to the regulations and the first step taken was to request an additional public meeting in Anacortes. That request was granted by NOAA.

Emails have gone out to members from Seattle to the Blaine, allerting them of CCA's concerns and questions surrounding the science used in NOAA's conclusions. If you are a member and did not receive an email, contact your chapter president.

Just because you don't always hear all the intricate details does not mean it is being ignored. This is evidenced by the emails going out and CCA representatives speaking those concerns at the meeting. Other things not disclosed are happening I am sure.

ALL recreational fishermen, including CCA are making a difference. Everyone deserves kudos.
