What's next? Only treating the eyes of people who join CCA?

Certainly true. But life is compromise, and if everyone turns every issue into a non-compromise issue, we end up with a lack of dialog... One reasonable perspective is that doc is asking for a $25 donation each year to his favorite charity. I may not be an outspoken advocate of that charity, but I'm happy to make the donation because it's important to Doc and I want to show my support for him--as a thank you for taking me fishing.

Not every issue needs to be a one where stark black and white lines are drawn. I support causes of friends who run marathons, sell cookies, and invite me to fund-raising dinners -- I don't always agree 100% with the causes, but I support my friends in their passions and endeavors.

(Full disclosure, I'm a CCA member for the last 2 years)

I've noticed that this type of thing seems to polarize things rather than bring people together. Dialog between groups is a good thing, especially out on a boat where someone can't say F(*K You and walk away.
Another option Doc, take anyone fishing, just make them sign up to get the ride back to the launch . .. . . $25 or a swim, which will it be .. .. . except Todd, I hear he walks on water. . . . . .

I fish with people for two reasons...I enjoy fishing with them, and we fish well together...that's all the reason I need to fish with someone.

I did offer to sign up for the CCA if Doc would sign up with the DNC, but for some reason he thought that particular sellout was different...

Fish on...

No water walking for me, nor any claim to...but I can swim pretty well, if need be!

When fishing in boats, I greatly prefer standing on the deck.

Fish on...

We'll call it a push. Doesn't seem like a fair trade to me either.

I think the beauty of sportfishing is that it's an activity that people can enjoy together no matter what their political, activist, or tow vehicle choice is...

To purposely step back from that and choose to use it as a tool to try and extort memberships out of someone is patently ridiculous...but that's my conviction, and if someone has a different one, well, then they're welcome to it.

Fish on...

Todd

Just kidding, however, it may come on a little strong....IMO

Organizations should be able to build membership through good communications, a strong organizational structure and a clearly stated message / purpose.

They shouldn't have to rely on "Parlor Tricks".......Just my opinion of course

I consider you a friend and have alot of respect for you but I guess fishing with you is currently not possible.

You think Francis was brainwashed into "parlor tricking" people into joining? AYFKM? If you don't like it fine, but that doesn't make somebody else wrong.

Nowhere did I say Francis was brainwashed or wrong.

People who want to "harvest" wild steelhead won't get a seat in my raft or my sled. Is that Political?

All guys I fish with are strongly encouraged to join groups that are activily fighting for our fisheries. That includes most conspicuously CCA and WSC. If you can afford to fish you can afford a membership.

All my fishing partners are members of CCS, because they agree that in the Political Arena that's the only way you gain respect from the other players.

If we want to have anadromous fisheries in our future, we better get behind the (IMO) most effective political organization fighting for this future.

Don't like CCA PNW's policies? Get involved and help shape new ones~

just my .02,

Brian

Doc, you've really drawn the line in the sand. That's a bold stance and one I can certainly appreciate.

But I have to agree with Todd on this in that the beauty of fishing is being able to enjoy time outdoors with people and focus on the pure enjoyment of being in the moment. To me it's all about blocking out life's stresses and allowing myself and my crew to have one purpose, to catch as many fish as we can in the time slot allowed for that given day.

Politics, religion, and ideals may come up while fishing but never is the main focus for me. Its all about having fun.

Next time you're close enough check out the LIFE MEMBER sticker and the little CCA fishes on the R W B.

But that's just me and this is a democracy last time I checked.

Being anti CCA is a lot different than just not supporting it, they are obviously not the cure all, but they are a glimmer of hope that could become something.....

If somebody comes up with something better I will support it too.

I'm lookin to put together a group to form a coalition named "FBS".

I didn't even get a reach around on this one.

Oh wait, my bad. I just FOUND my CCA card. It's right here in my pocket.

Looks like I'll be at the dock bright and early Doc. Better SAVE me that seat. I'll be there. Promise. I'll swear on my CCA membership that I'll be there to take that seat.

If I should get another invite to fish with Francis in the future, he'll have to take my word on it. I think I was one of the first local members. I joined immediately when I heard about it at a PSA meeting, and have maintained membership ever since. If you want my card however, you'll have to did it out of the trash. My wallet is already overstuffed, and it's not filled with money either.
Perhaps a bit harsh on the wording of this requirement but otherwise his prerogative.
