Can anyone recommend a place in the Seattle area to buy fresh shucked oysters? Thanks.

There's a couple good places to buy them in the Pike Place Market.

Mutual Fish on Rainier or Uwajimaya in the ID.
Or the little market next to Chinooks in Magnolia.

Not shucked, but Central Market has about 8 varieties live in running salt water bath.

Costco - small by the quart.

+1 on Brady's ..... on the road to Westport...."yearings are the best", pay a little more but ohoooo are they good. "Small's" from there are also very good.

Head's Up on Costco.....while the price is very good, the quantity is not. Called the Belleuve office of the company that supplies them, that company is in S. Bend. What they are calling "smalls" are not what I'd call "small", more like medium or large. Bottom line, Belleuve office, said "they'd take care of it......and sent me a check for more than what the purchase price was,,,,,

I'll make the drive to Brady's, when the "oyster mood" strikes again.

Just a thought.....rather than drive all over looking for them.....I'd let my fingers do the walking, get phone number......call and have them shipped right to your door.....might cost a few bucks.....but at the price of gas and parking charges, at some of the places mentioned above....mmmmmmmmm well, might be cheaper....

Taylor Shellfish will ship high quality oysters anywhere. But for smoking, any oyster you get locally will probably be fine as long as it is fresh. Also try smoking up some steamers while you are at it - MMMM.

Parker - One bad shrimp and you write off raw shellfish entirely? I'll take my chances with raw oysters as long as they are fresh, harvested in the cool months, and I know where they came from. I'd much rather eat a raw local oyster than one of those canned smoked oysters from China. How much human waste and chemical pollution you suppose those have in them?

The top shellfish people in the state are in my building and I'm just going off of *their* recommendations. IE, THEY ALL will not eat raw oysters. Ever. Regardless of where they came from.

But hey, knock yourself out by eating raw oyesters. Yum yum.



I don't think it does. Rather, I think *enough* of the nasties are killed during the cooking process to make them not-so-lethal.

I'm not an oyster guy. Shellfish was never my speciality. I could ask, though.

That's bad news Parker. My favorite oysters are the little shooters, which by definition are raw. Next would be steamed open on the grill, like at Stamfest, and those aren't really cooked much, if at all. I'm not sure I've ever had cooked oysters that I really liked. I prefer clam chowder to oyster stew. So what good are oysters if you have to cook them hot enough to kill any bacteria?
