Jay- you ever wana part with those two tads in that picture let me make the first offer i have an extra one, how much are they worth ? I paid 250 for each of those- at an antique shop. I will give them to OP since I have his address (sorry BFD) . Plus I already have one good goto plug, what would be the purpose of having extra. For the amout of plugging I do one plug is plenty.

Justin you lucky bastard Come on Danny-I am sure you have plenty of these allready. If not it looked like at least 2 similar ones were lost at the SRC, perhaps you should dig out your dry suit and see if you can find them.

I have a friend, Dick Streeter, who is one of the top NW experts on old tackle. If you want I can send you his email addy. I'm sure he would love to tell you what he knows about the Martin display board.
Dave, email him the link to this thread and ask him to post here about it. I'm sure we'd all love to read what he has to say

Used South Bend glass spin rods & Zebco cardinal 3 reels, oh & Royal Bonnell (sp?) mono Is that the Cardinal C3 spinning reel? My dad and I went through a whole bunch of those. Awesome drags but their anti-reverse mechanism broke all the time and John Martinas must have loved us for that. I'd still own one however. Danny, yeah we used the older Zebco Cardinals in size 3 & then size 4 when hunting bigger critters, they have green body W/ a white spool. Had a newer verizon w/ the same profile made in the 80's. This one was all black & made out of mostly graphite. Loved the drag on those, that knob is in just the right spot. Heres a clean 3 And its bigger bro, 4 e3EGb!~~_12.JPG) c/22

The Zebco Cardinal's are extremely collectable and useable, these Swedish made jewels had the smoothest drags of any spinning reel that you could buy back then. I think that the #3 fetches the highest prices and a fair condition example goes for around 100 bucks or so on ebay. The Reel that really kicked off Spin fishing was the Mitchell which came in to the US from France in the late 1940's. The first shipment of these were fitted with a Rose Wood handles and was quickly recalled because of the nature of wood not being equal and some of the handles were splitting. So they recalled them right away and refitted them with a turned aluminum handle. As a result of this recall the wood handled Mitchell's are extremely rare. I have pictures of the one my Dad purchased at Bill Lohrer's sports shop in 1949. Buzz Fiorini was working there and my dad had known him from his Boeing days. I guess these reel had just hit town and Buzz told my dad that these new reels would out cast any thing out there and he made a quick sale. I guess it was a good purchase because my dad used that reel for years. In 2003 I showed this reel to a fellow named Ben Wright who had written a book on the value of collectable spinning reels and he said that I had better hang on to it because he only knew of 5 others of these to exist at that time. If you have one of these, I would be very happy to take it off your hands for you. Pacific Northwest Fishing Golden Years

i know that there was a company building a cardinal 3 clone, called the "american classic". they kind of dropped off the radar a while back. they definitely weren't cheap though!
things have been a little rocky for me financially, so my ambassadeur collection has stopped growing for the time being. i have to stay away from ebay because hunting for rare ABUs starts to consume me after a while.
my best score recently was finding 2 2500Cs at the sunbird store in yelm. the original run was from 1975 to around 1982, but every now and then the factory produces a little run and (usually) only sells them in europe and japan. the best part about it was the price -- "on sale" for $59.99 each, which is about 1/4 of what the low end selling price on ebay for unused 2500s is. i heard it was an accidental shipment, and that sportco got a bunch at the same time. they were gone within a day or two.

hey, sounds like what i've got.
last fall, i scored a mid 80's vintage 7'9 fenwick glass steelhead blank -- the one the FS79 was built on.
i slapped on an old lamiglas style weibe handle kit and wrapped a set of chrome alconite guides, and it feels just right with a 2500C bolted in. great little egg tossing rod for some of the smaller rivers out this way...

My all-time favorite reel for drift fishing is still the pfluger supreme. I have aquired 15+ or -. Some are unuseable, I have a couple real nice ones that I dont fish and I have 4 that I fish regularly. If a someone could adapt a few high speed ball bearings, they would be sweet!!
