Anyone know when fish and Game usually releases the smolt plant statistics for washington. It seems like the state would want to release the stream stocking statistics for the 2009-10 winter steelhead season before the season begins.

For whatever reason, it seems to lag about two years. So much for the benefits of technology sometimes.

Nothing new really.

I've harrassed the region 6 office for years about this and all I ever get is "when Olympia sends it, we'll have it for you"

JFC!!!! we're talking about 1 set of numbers on a spreadsheet on someone's computer.......numbers that were created 2 years ago.

And these can't be printed in October before the season?

Budget cuts my ass!....that's just lame.

Vent done. smile

Anyone notice that the catch reports have not been updated since 2002. Somehow you would think that in this elctronic age WDFW would figure out how to get at least the most basic information out in some sort of timely fashion.

I got mine 2 weeks ago. It is currently in draft form. Bob Leland is the WDFW contact . Don't have his email handy. Contact WDFW and specify what you want even in draft form and they will send.

True, but at this point in the season wouldn't you agree a guy shouldn't have to do that?

i think the '02-03 catch reports were just uploaded last year, and even those numbers were kind of depressing. not sure i really want to know what things are like now.

i know someone gets them, though. F&H lies had the annual top 10 river list out right before they went tits up. i recall the skookumchuck was in the top 10 rivers with something around 700 fish caught...pretty sad.

Maybe its time to "fill Phil Anderson's email box", with day to day concerns of Pacific Northwest sporstspeople. Would give him something to think about on his drive from Westport to Olympia. Just happen to have that email address....

Philip.Anderson@dfw.wa.gov

Not sure if he knows how to use email????? I've never had any response back from him or maybe he don't have the computer/electonic skills necessary????

I clicked the link hatchbio provided and it only shows last winter/summer seasons plant statistics. This was the point of the original thread. shouldn't the current plant statistics be available for the current season. Not after the season is over.

The way I read those numbers, the plants from 2007 will be returning this year so it does give you an idea.

Castingpearls, you are correct. For hatchery steelhead, which predominantly return as 3 year olds, you'd want to look at the plants two years prior to the fishing year.

The majority of the adult returns from these releases are expected during the 2008-2009 winter and 2009 summer seasons. Select system totals in italics. FINAL Dec. 09, 2008

Huh? WTF

Are the majority really 3 salt?

OK. I guess 3 year old means 2 salt. Still they don't seem to provide the info for the current season. lame. I'll just have to guess if there's any fish in that there crik.

You are correct that there is not a release report for the fish returning this winter. My point in posting was to show that there are resonably up -to-date reports. Some previous comments alluded to there not being anything available for several years. I will look into the reason for the delay of the smolt report and get back to you folks.
