was that the turbo tour with dokken opening? or was it the painkiller tour with testament and megadeth opening? Priest has always kicked ass - another pre-MTV band that made their living by bringing it onstage! i saw them in 2004 when they had reunited with Rob and it was the first time i had seen them sober. i am still in awe today of how much ass they kicked at that show - a bunch of old farts having a great time onstage and blistering the fretboards like the days of old. that priest/dokken show was probably the best paring of bands i saw and priest's sound people did NOT fvck with dokken's sound - they let them tear it up, then priest came out and was even better.

I saw Rage against the Machine in Seattle in the 90's. That was an awesome show. But my favortie is probably Chris Ledoux, I was able to see him twice before he died.

yep, 1991 but it was in Enumclaw, not Puyallup.

my favorite shows

Bonerama - Boom Boom Room (i know there's a joke there somewhere)

Yer right...thanks for the reminder!

It was always cool to see Rob Halford drive his Harley out on stage...

Missing Queen with Freddie is one of my biggest music regrets.

Speaking of regrets, I missed George Clinton and Funkadelic last night at ShowBox...one of my friends was having her birthday party there.

I, on the other hand, had too much work to do.

Fish on...

That would have been a great one! Way jealous! Saw mudhoney at a bunch of small venues and they usually had crap bands open up for them for one reason or another.

Mudhoney was set to play in the gym at Western when I was there, and Nirvana showed up and opened for them...this was in '89...very good chit.

Fish on...

For me, all of the pre '94 shows I went to were at the top of my list. Nirvana, Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Melvins, Pearl Jam, etc. I saw them numerous times that I can remember, and some times that I can't remember, those were good too.

Recently there have been numerous "best" concerts including but not limited to Zappa plays Zappa, Dave Matthews, Iron Maiden, Alice in Chains, Tony Bennett, and Stone Temple PIlots. Out of those, I would say Stone Temple Pilots at Berkeley Greek Theater in 08 was my favorite. I have tickets to both AIC shows next month smile

Might go to the Alice in Chains show next month. On the 18th, Shawn Smith and his band "Satchel" is playing at the Crocodile. Tickets I think are 12$ on line. I'll be there.

I don't even recognize the names of many of the groups listed in this thread. Plus, I've never been a fan of heavy metal, either. So the best concert I've been to was Sky River Rock Festival III in 1969, with a lot of the same groups that played Woodstock that year. Unlike Woodstock, it didn't rain at Sky River. It was 3 days of sun, dust, beer, dope, wine, dope, beer, and just about continuous rock music. I wish I remembered more of it. I do recall having to wash about a half-inch of caked on dust off my car after I left. That was the last Sky River festival. Politics in every county made it impossible to obtain the necessary permits after that. I swear, middle-aged officials of every stripe in that era just couldn't stand the thought of young people having a better time on the weekend than they did. I'm glad I'm not like that.

I'm with KK on the small venues. I've seen a few good shows at arenas (Rush, U2, Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, etc.), but every band is better when they're standing five feet in front of you. I must have seen 100 or more shows at smallish clubs in Austin while going to college, and too many were what I would call "great" to name them all. Something that was really cool about the scene in Austin was that big time acts would pop up at small clubs from time to time and blow the doors off the place.

I also got to see some amazing shows at off-beat venues. A few such interesting opportunities included Ween at Stubbs BBQ, Elvis Costello and the Attractions (no better live band EVER, in my opinion) at Willie Nelson's amphitheatre called the Backyard, and Tom Petty/The Jayhawks at the Bass Concert Hall on the UT campus. There was also a really cool outdoor festival, held out on some rancher's land in the middle of nowhere, featuring Fishbone, De La Soul, P-Funk (with a Mother Ship landing, of course), and a few others. I should also mention the first Lollapalooza, which had starpower galore and a few memorable moments.

I wish I could have been around Seattle when the grunge bands were playing the small shows. I was in high school in those days, and the grunge sound spoke to me like some sort of dark, demented angel (or some other rock 'n' roll sounding piece of badassness). I really regret never having seen Mudhoney, who were one of my favorite bands for years.

Fun topic. Bringing back lots of great memories.

I BEGGED my parents to let me go to that one. It was just before I got my licence and no one else at my podunk dumfuk school had any clue who they were. Those fags were still rocking out to GnR & Motley Crue. Shame I missed it.

Mudhoney also headlined Ultra Lamefest on April 4, 1992 at the Paramount Theater with Seaweed, The Supersuckers, Pond and Earth. Another good Mudhoney show was pain in the grass when they opened for Aldo Nova, who was relentlessly booed when he came onstage after Mark Arm said he was a dick.

Another good show was Foo Fighters at JAMPAC benefit Kitsap pavilion 7/22/95, opening bands were Sky Cries Mary • Bjork • Afghan Whigs • Shudder to Think • Wool • Sweet 75. We didn't know what the future held for FF when we saw then then, just that it was "the drummer from Nirvana".

Ok, here's another (remembering these shows is giving me a flashback) Nirvana opened for Sonic Youth at the Moore on 8/24/90 with Dale Crover on drums. I remember most of that show as I was on crutches and they let my friend video tape the whole show.

Belinda Carlisle after 10 No-Doze at 15yrs old was a twitchy type affair.

Zeppelin on fungus was funny.

Floyd in Vancouver was fleetingly quick and blurry.

Tool and Sound Garden at Kitsap was wet.

Nine Inch Nails at the OZ was a night for puss.

Nirvanna, Mother Love Bone, Alice, etc at the RKCANDY, Vogue, Offramp or the OK Hotel was usually a good, active, fun-lovin' time.

Tool and Soundgarden.

How the fark did I miss that show?

I saw Motorhead a few years ago, I think at the Moore. It was awesome. My ears rang for two days, and it made me think I'm getting a little soft in my old age.
