I am going to be putting a new coating on the bottom of my drift boat, and I was wondering what you guys use? I heard that some people use fiberglass resin mixed with graphite; know anything about that?

Coat- it works better than Gluvit in the cold we have been having lately.

make sure you care for the edges. you can "wrap" the coat it around the bottom onto the sides lower edge by using cardboard.

Take the cardboard and and tape it to the hull to create a edge. The coat it is thick and wont run over or thru the cardboard.. it creates a real nice "wapped" look. It also functions to give protection to the bottom and lower sides. So the bottom is good and the sides are also from those rocks that just stick up ... you know the ones you "feel" your way around...

Old Red makes a good point, first time I coated my new drift boat I didn't wrap the edges and wish I did, next coat due in a year or two and will be sure to do that next time.

I used Coat It, very durable.

When is it a good time to re coat the bottom?

I put on new Gluvit 2 seasons ago and bumped down the Rogue and Siuslaw enough to make me shake my head when I really look at all the scraping on the bottom. I saw "ROCK!" too late.

Is there a good rule to follow? I've had my boat only 4 years.

Sounds like the lower edge/chine wrap with the coat It or gluvit is the way to go.
