I am going to start pulling plugs for kings from a drift boat. Do people prefer kwikfish or maglips, and what size?

I have never tried a MagLip, but I have ran kwiks in a ton of different rivers and a ton of different ways and I don't see any reason to start buying a new style plug. Catch a a lot of fish that way.
If you want them down fast run them behind a #30 jet diver attached sliding style above a swivel. Just leave the jet divers rigged up all the time in the box with about 1' of 80 pound braid to a clip and pop them on and off when you need them. You'll get fish others miss with the same old kwikfish.

There's a lot to be said for K16's too. Actually I'll pick one over a K15 most the time. I've always felt like the bigger thump did the trick, they are easier to tune and wrap, and they're not too big as long as you get the river and plug color matched up.

I'm more of a flatfish guy in slower water and kwikfish in faster water. Flatfish are much harder to tune but I like the action better. just my opinion

Kwiks or Mag Lips? Answer is "Yes." Both have their applications. I like mag lips for flatlining in deep holes or especially flatline trolling slackwater. For diver fishing I prefer K15's, dowrigger I like K16's.

Kwikfish are great lures...flatfish are great lures....Mag lips are great lures... they all have they're advatages and drawbacks. All have varying sizes that run at different depths.

Here are some tips for pulling Salmon plugs, match the plug to the water you are fishing. You do not want a plug that just hammers the bottom.. you want a plug that has a wounded bait fish look too it. Mag lips are great lures, in water that has depth between 8 feet plus, if any less than that they just hammer the bottom and look unnatural to any kind of fish.

Kwikfish are great lures when matched to the conditions you which to fish. K-15s are the eastiest to tune to run true, k-14 are the hardest. K-13x are awesome plugs and one of my favs for sure. all will run up to about 8-10 feet without a diver...in this range it is a natural wounded baitfish presentation, meaning the kwikfish achievs a natural baitfish look to it. if any more than that, it is what i call a kwikfish on crack! When Kwikfish are pulled against the current the harder or deeper the current the harder the bill has to work against set current. If you add a diver when the current is fast and 8 feet plus is relievs alot of the stress of the actual kwikfish and puts most of the current on the diver... thus bringing the natural wounded baitfish action back to the plug in a depth that it would not be able to run on its own.

K-11 and k-9xs i put into the same catagory.. fixed eyelet. they are awesome plugs when matched to the conditions of heavy pressure of ultra low and clear water... they will run up to about 6 feet other than that i run a diver. hope all this helps

ALWAYS WRAP A PLUG EVEN A K9x

How do you wrap an x9 or x11 and keep them running strait besides very carefully? It it as much work as it seems?
Squid and shrimp?

Once you wrap them enough you get a good idea on how much of a fillet to give them... but you really have to fine tune the wrap but, in my opinion it is worth it.

I have been a Kwikfish only fan for years but recently used the M2 flafish and have done very good and been very impressed. Where I would use quickfish and a diver I can use just a M2 flatfish and they catch fish very well! You have to use a little smaller wrap then K15 or k16 but I was a die hard kwikfish guy and now use mostly m2 flatfish when backtrolling kings. Just my 2 cents worth
