We sent our 2nd grade daughter off to the first week-long summer camp of her life and my 5 year old son was a little jealous and wondered what camp he was going to attend. With quick thinking I told him he was going to KING CAMP! With a teacher's summer, I could make this happen and now I can see what a brilliant idea it was. I get to fish 5 days in a row! With my boy!

Monday, Day 1 of King Camp
Fished end of incoming and tide change in A9 and went 3 for 4 with a friend of mine and my son. Lost one to a seal and released one wild. Two fish between 15-19lb in the boat on plugs. A seal took my buddy's fish and we ended up netting it after an epic battle. Thank goodness it was a hatchery with 6 seal eye tooth holes through its head. I would have hated to give that seal a free meal. Great afternoon/evening on the water.

*Pics added of friend Dylan with my boy and myself trying to make them look like 20 pounders. Notice the seal teeth marks in the bigger fish.

Day 2 Report...tomorrow.

Day 2 of King Camp
0 for 1 fishing A10 tonight losing one fish on flasher and hoochie, but beautiful evening on the water.
Very little bait on the west side of A10 and lots of weeds.

Day 3 King Camp

Fished A10 again hearing of a decent bite the morning before. Pretty slow. We missed 1, lost 2 and landed one. Rough percentage, but that is how it goes sometimes. I am kicking myself for not checking my leader after a dogfish, because a really NICE king broke me off right above my hook. Bummer.

All fish hooked deep as goes the story of the season for me in 150-200' of water. Hoochies and spoons. The fish we did land was pretty dark.

My 5 year old son is still rolling strong with a great attitude. Up at 4:15 this morning and when we pulled in the driveway around 3PM, he asked if we were going out tonight too. Gotta love it!

King Camp Day 4 (brought a couple other guys along for the outing)

One word...EPIC! Fished A10 most the day and picked up one small king and released a smallish blackmouth. Decided to make a long run up to A9 and had an incredible 1.5 hrs. Landed 4 really nice fish!

Again...all deep and fish were caught on plugs and white lighting spoon.

Those were my thoughts exactly. Couple more years for me, but I think King Camp will need to be an annual event.

King Camp Day 5 (postponed until tomorrow)
Small Craft Advisory kept us off the water as well as a buddy that needed help moving. I'll see the masses of people tomorrow.
Thanks for the comments guys. It is a win/win situation for both of us. We get to spend some serious time together and I get the green light for a week of fishing. Not a bad deal.

Here my boy is around noon after waking up at O-Dark thirty a couple days ago. Mouth breather...just like his dad.

Who can blame a guy for copping a nap at camp?

King Camp Day 5 (last day)

Took another dad and his 7 year old son out fishing. Fished for a few hours this evening back in A10 because of the wind. After a stellar evening on Day 4, we got humbled tonight. Not one bump on the downriggers, but we did have a silver on the top rod, but lost it. Fish checker at Kingston said she had 9 silvers come in. Good news for September fishing.

What a great week we had. At night we practiced different knots and by the end of the week my boy was instructing the newbies we brought on board on how to run the downriggers, etc.

Good luck the rest of the king season!
