I usually cast buzzbombs off the beaches, but when with the family I'd like to slow down and fish a herring under float. Is any weight used under the float and what is a typical distance from hook to float?

I do not usually go more than 3-4' since I'm going for the wounded-or-dying-baitfish-on-the-surface presentation. My brined herring sink so I only use a big split shot or two. If you can get that rig into a rip near the shore, HOLD ON `cause the coho just crush it...

At the Bait Box, I use as big a weight as my float will carry, 2 to 4 ounce. About a 5 or 6 foot leader, then let the rig slide to the stop, 5 or 6 feet. Huck that as far as you can and let that little bugger swim for his life.

Are there going to be any Coho?

You're right. The herring-under-the-float presentation worked great- last summer. This year, I think I'm 0-fer 10 trips from the beach...
