Brad's Mini Cut Plug Super Bait 3.0

I see Brads is going to be coming out with a new smaller 3" super bait. Since most of my fishing is done with the family, and having little ones along means mostly plunking. I've been wondering about plunking the larger Super Baits. Now with the 3" size coming out this fall I was thinking about experimenting with sliding one down to a stopper about 3' above the traditional spin n glo / bait combo (like is done with a hot shot or small kwik).
Any thoughts?

I want some! Judging by the success of regular pc superbaits I can't wait to try the minis.

We fished these quite a bit recently on our trip to Winter Harbor, both with the supplied small treble and a single siwash, usually 5 feet behind a hotspot. The chinook really liked them, but I found that we'd get 2-3 drive-bys for every hookup. Conventional spoons with a singel siwash, fished side by side, got less action but actually accounted for more fish hooked. I suspect that due to the intense spinning action of the SP, hitting them is a bit like biting a propeller?
Anyone else have this experience?

We actually get really good hookup rates most of the time, but I'm not using any stock hooks. I rig a front 3/0 gami siwash in the belly loop and a trailing 3/0 sickle hanging free with a little bead chain. We occasionally will miss one, but we've had 100% hookups many days. Of course this is in freshwater so it may behave a bit different.

I'm more intrested in the big ones coming out. They will be the size of a blue label. 3 sizes will be a good thing. I love the action of theses lures.

Dang, that was a costly break off for sure. How were you working the bait? What was your rigging?

I was using the "Hot Tamale"SB13,with 36" of 30 lb leader and 1 1/2oz banana chain sinker.Casting and retreiving from shore. The lure was tuna packed. The 22 Lb der and the one that broke the line both bit within 10 minutes of Night closure on the upper Columbia, so I'm sure flashing the belly of the lure had something to do with it.I have since stepped up to 20 lb line, and my drag on the Ambassadeur reel is set perfect.GR

Are you talking the Super Bait or the Cut Plug Super Bait? I know the SB 13 is a Super Bait. Is some of the input on this thread talking about the Super Bait Cut Plug? Just trying to clarify the info for myself.
Thanks!

Sorry Eagle, I got off topic.I like the cut plugs, and the mini will be a winner.I have been trying to coax the maker into a mini superbait, as it would be a killer for steelies I'm sure.Guess I just like to share success stories:)

Redd, be sure and let us know about your test on Coho.A week ago, I saw a Black Jack cut plug nail 2 -18 lb Chinook in about 10 min time.Tuna was the stuffing of the night.Actually we have night closure, so the last 30 minutes of the legal fishing (in the dark)is usually hotter than a pistol.GR

I have not tried the tuna. is it oil or water packed tuna? i have been taking oil absorbent pads , the type you use in your bulge, and cutting them into small pieces. then soaking them in herring oil. these are great for the cut plugs or the top hook on your hoochies. they last for hours and are very cheap. they do not absorb water ,just oil , so they don't get water logged.

For the cut plug or SB, I use the oil packed tuna ,little anise oil, dash of garlic powder, and some double redd pro cure.I have a friend who fishes with me, and is dead set on proving my Tuna mix is not the hot stuff I think it is.Anyway, he uses the same lure as me, and has since the upper columbia opened for chinook. He has yet to catch one ,though he has had a couple strikes.Myself, I have done very well so far, and after several strikes tonight, I nailed a nice 10 lb hen on my last cast of the evening.Life is GOOD!GR
